White House to Abandon Spy-Satellite Program

The Obama administration plans to kill a controversial Bush administration spy satellite program at the Department of Homeland Security, according to officials familiar with the decision. The program came under fire from its inception two years ago. Democratic lawmakers said it would lead to domestic spying. The program would have provided federal, state and local officials with extensive access to spy-satellite imagery — but no eavesdropping capabilities— to assist with emergency response and other domestic-security needs, such as identifying where ports or border areas are vulnerable to terrorism.

“After numerous congressional briefings on the importance of the NAO and its solid legal footing, [leftist] politics beat out good government,” said Andrew Levy, who was deputy general counsel at the department in the Bush administration.

It would be embarassing to all the pot-farms out there, and unsporting to illegal immigrants.

Let me see if I have this straight; our enemies can use Google Earth to target us, but we can't use specialty satellites to target them back.

Seems fair/ sarc

I don’t know about you, but I’d rather not have a government ‘spy satellite’ looking over us.

Why doesn’t The Zero just invite our enemies to just move in and take over the country?

[. . .that the program would violate the Fourth amendment right to be protected from unreasonable searches. . .]

What about a police helicopter or fixed-wing? What about drones?

The knee-jerk mindset of these fools is to reverse any policy that existed before Jan. 20.

They already do.

This program was to allow state and local govts to have 'access' to the video and photos that are taken every day by various satellites.

“embarassing to all the pot-farms out there, and unsporting to illegal immigrants.”

Bet that’s the primary reason.

As you are aware the G.P.S. system is possibly going to go down if some of several satellites go out as there are not enough to replace the old ones.
N.S.A. in various forms has plenty of satellites this is more a nuance. Can we use spy satellites on the U.S.A.?
Should we have a program to do so? Should we have a program that does just and only that?
The Conversation and Enemy of the State are great examples/
And if it keeps Americans alive I don’t care if they find a pot plant on someones property.

True,
Our unmanned vehicles are outstanding now.
pretty soon the manned fighter aircraft will be a thing of the past.
Scram jets will go fast as skeeah and be armed to take out whatever without risking a pilot and without having to deal with the drag of a human
