Jews under Hitler were trying like Hell to get out of dodge, but immigration laws kept them from entering other countries.

There was no “sit back peacefully.” There was simply no where to go.

True. But lets not forget that some did manage to make it to the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Colombia, and Brazil, where they were largely welcomed by the governments in question.

Lots of German Jews went to Poland initially, thinking that moving one country over to the country with the largest Jewish population in Europe would provide protection from the Third Reich. Big mistake in hindsight...
