SAO PAULO A weak signal from the flight data recorders of the Air France jet that crashed into the Atlantic killing all 228 people on board have been located, French newspaper Le Monde reported on its web site Tuesday.
According to the report, French naval vessels picked up a weak signal from the flight recorders on Monday and that a mini submarine has been dispatched to try and find the "black boxes" on the bottom of the rugged ocean floor.
An Air France spokeswoman told Reuters she could not confirm the report. The Transport Ministry and the air accident investigation office was not reached immediately for comment.

Yes !!!!!!!
Great news.
Supposing the flight recorders are in fact in the maximum reporting depth in the vicinity of the crash at 14,000 feet.
Is it possible to phyiscally recover them at that depth?
It is a long way to the bottom out there.
True, and unless the plane broke into lots of tiny pieces, spilling its debris over a very large area, the black boxes aren’t going to be the only things that the submersibles find down there.
Just wow!
Okay after being curious I looked for Titanic wreck information. It’s approximately 13,000 feet down and I know that objects have been recovered from it. Is another 1,000 feet possible?
That’s another 30x the atmospheric pressure of depth.
I am not an expert but, if the submersibles and other equipment can function at that depth, then yes, I suspect that they probably can (and definitely will) go get the black boxes.
He will dive in and be out with the recorder before you know it.
Im suprised a black box isnt meant to float
It could have remained attached to other wreckage that sank.
I’ll bet the seaview’s mini sub could get it......
BUMP!
Personally, I wonder if, 1. the water pressure at that depth will have destroyed them, and, 2. if not, they’ll show the plane blew up in mid-air.
Thanks for the update from rabscuttle385

The French military has very sophisticated submarines, mini-subs, and robot powered mini subs.
Hopefully the BB will be found. I am afraid to think about what they would reveal.
They are designed to withstand multiple crash scenarios, including being submersed at extreme pressure. But they also have to survive direct violent impacts on dry ground. To make them bouyant but still able to do all the other things they have to do (and still fit inside the aircraft in a reasonable way) would be impractical.
