CNN producer Vito Maggiolo saying "one train on top of each other."

Appreciate it.
Maintenance was slipping badly because of the big budget deficit, and my colleagues and I have commented repeatedly that it was only a matter of time before something like this happened. We all ride the Red Line regularly each week, and every time we get on it, we hold our breath that something doesn't happen.
Prayers for all involved and their families.
Kristinn ... if memory serves 1/13/82 was not only the first fatal Metro accident, but also the day the plane taking off for FL from National went into the 14th Street bridge and the Potomac??? Nasty, icy, snowy day.
Prayers up. Hope all D.C freepers check in soon.
You are correct.
Im sure the familes of the dead and injured enjoyed the nice train wreck too. You are a moron
That I can understand. Metro has been underfunded and over extended for years now.
LOL???! What is wrong with you. If your family member was bleeding in one of the trains, I’m sure you’d be laughing out loud at the “clever” comment as well. You are as big a moron as the original poster you are laughing with.
Have done. . .admittedly a long time ago.
Thanks for the reminder.
Maryland PING!
This happened just a few minutes (by Metrorail) from where I work.
Yes. It was the toughest day the D.C. area experienced from then up to Sept. 11, 2001.
I’m watching this live on MyFoxDC and it looks like one Metro train rear ended the other...the front car of the second train is on top of the rear car of the lead train.
The train car on top rammed the the train underneath it. Looks like a switching problem...the train that got his was stopped...the train that rammed it was given the green light to continue on not knowing the other train was stopped.
MyFoxDC is reporting 4 dead now. And possibly 3-4 more bodies still inside.
On the red line between the Ft. Totten and the Takoma Park stations.
D.C.F.D. is at three alarms on this so far and calling it a mass casualty event.
Live video feed:
http://www.myfoxdc.com/subindex/live_video/news_now
70 wounded. 50 of them “walking wounded” 20 are what Chief Rubin described as “red tagged”
Those cars are about 20 feet long...and the car that was left has only about five feet of it left from the video I’ve seen the rest was crushed on impact.
The stopped train was waiting for another train to clear the Ft. Totten Station.
Prayers for the families.
(Oh, and by the way, off-topic, during the election there were many, many Metro employees and operators wearing “Obama” buttons while “working.” A clear violation of policy, reported, but ignored by Metro HQ.)
At least 4 deaths at this time.
Agreed. . .from basic escalator service to track maintenance to operators. . .they are all indications of a shoddy operations. We have been thus far very lucky.
What bothers me most about freerepublic are the idiots who make jokes about tragedies.
I have two daughters and a son-in-law who live in DC and I know many of their friends. My kids are OK, I hope their friends are also.
Prayers for the dead and injured.
Regards.
oh no!!! terrible..
prayers for all involved.. and peace for families waiting news
