Maintenance was slipping badly because of the big budget deficit, and my colleagues and I have commented repeatedly that it was only a matter of time before something like this happened. We all ride the Red Line regularly each week, and every time we get on it, we hold our breath that something doesn't happen.
That I can understand. Metro has been underfunded and over extended for years now.
