They call her Neda, which means 'voice' in Farsi, and her death has become the central rallying cry of the Iranian rebellion.
The pretty teenage girl killed by what appears to be a single sniper shot on the streets of Tehran Saturday is now a potent symbol for pro-democracy protesters battering the Islamic regime.
Her quick and brutal death in the arms of her howling father was captured on close-up video, posted to Facebook and sent to computer screens across the world.
"Neda you broke my heart, too young to die," was one of a flood of messages on Twitter.
"RIP Neda, the world cries seeing your last breath," read another. "Neda is everyone's sister, everyone's daughter, everyone's voice for freedom," said a third.
Iconic posters of her dead face, open-eyed and bloody, were carried by demonstrators in Los Angeles and New York City within hours.
The graphic video was originally posted to Facebook by an Iranian expatriate in Holland who said it was sent to him by a friend in Tehran, a doctor who tried to save the girl.
The expat said her name was Neda Soltani, a 16-year-old philosophy student.
The outpouring of messages on Twitter included a new account dedicated solely to insisting the video was fake. That poster was roundly shouted down as a tool of the Iranian regime.
The youtube title used for the link speaks for itself. Notice that they were merely viewing (possibly cheering) from the side a peaceful procession of demonstrators

Surprisingly, I saw this about an hour ago on CNN along with the graphic video of Neda initially going down from the shot. I then flushed it out on youtube to post.
You can see her right eye glaze over and fix. And her mouth and nose and her left eye are full of blood and there's no blinking, no effort to clear the blood to breathe.
You have seen a brutally murdered human being's soul pass out of her body right in front of your eyes.
Prayers for the repose of her soul. And justice for her murderers.

A few posters on Twitter have been posting this rumor over and over again. They’ve been denounced by the masses as agents from the Iranian government who are twitting false rumors to demoralize the opposition. The news now is that mosques have been banned by the government from giving her memorial services. So, if the video is a fake, then the government has been duped as well. One comment on the article - Neda’s birth year is being published as 1982 or 1983, which would make her around 27 years of age. Originally, she was listed as 16, but that seems to have changed in the last 24 hours.
It is not a troll to point out that I am one of the first ones to post BOTH videos yesterday. There is something in the man’s hand that can be seen before the blood starts pouring out of her mouth. I noticed after someone posted that he thought it was fake.
I am not saying it is fake. I don’t know if it is or is not. I am pointing out a fact that appears in the video.
Yup. Fake.
You watch, this will be revealed and (most) everyone will look like fools.
I am not a mass agent for the Iranian government and I don’t think that other poster that said it was fake is an agent either.
I didn’t read about the vial on Twitter. I observed it with my own eyes.
I originally thought the video was real. It was quite shocking. I don’t know what that man has in his hands. It is odd.
But as I pointed out yesterday, fake or real, she is a symbol for those that are getting killed.
Impossible to cough up blood I suppose.
I watched the video, and agree, no way is it fake. She is sitting on the ground, shortly after being shot in the chest. Two men, one presumably the doctor, use their hands to suppress the bleeding from her chest. She then lays backwards to the ground, and shortly after that the video clearly shows blood trickling from her mouth, then her nostrils. As you say, no effort to clear the blood to breathe.
On Fox News, the reporter commented that she was shot in the head (presumably after seeing the picture with blood on Neda's face). Fox is incorrect - she was shot in the chest, with the internal bleeding going up her airways.
Trust me...your better off for that decision. I saw it early and the images of her death will be in my head forever.
However I would pay to see the sniper that shot her hang!! Pure evil, as is the regime he represents.
There is no blood until you see a man’s hand come near her and he looks like he is pouring something on her. Then you see blood.
I can see why people think this is fake. I tend to believe it is real. I just can’t explain what that guy is doing before you see blood.
The photo they are releasing of her is not of a 16 year old unless they age pretty fast in Iran - which might be the case.
Iranian women are very beautiful by the way.
If you check the video I posted yesterday (LINK) you'll see:
- Both men have their hands on her as she initially goes down from the shot.
- Her blood is flowing from down the front of her torso (entry wound )and from her back (exit wound) LONG Before the blood starts pouring from her mouth.
- That's why blood is already on the ground and their hands before blood comes from her mouth.
I don't see how the failure to have normal involuntary responses like blinking or coughing can be faked.
Most people with a soul would not choose the description sensationalistic.
It is however, pure evil. Grisley, stark and unnecessary evil.
It is in fact, beyond description.
I am sorry I viewed it - the images of her death will stay with me forever. God rest her soul. May the killer burn in hell.

I did not suggest that any Freeper is in any way taking orders or being influenced by the Iranian government. I was posting my observations from #NEDA on Twitter. As far as the vial, millions have seen this carnage from a few angles via videos posted and suggested by folks on Twitter and other sites, and we’re not seeing vials. And, funeral arrangements for Neda have been made and, as I posted, the government has forbidden memorial services for her. I believe the video, and I believe the reports coming from Iran regarding her burial and the outlawed memorial services. If any of this is proven wrong, then I’ll certainly retract everything that I’m currently supporting. Until then, I saw a young woman gunned down and I saw her bleed to death, and it was awfully sad.
Looking at the video AGAIN...it may be Neda’s hand you see with what appears to some kind of vial/container. I think that extra hand is hers.
So did she put something in her mouth and this is fake or is it real and she had something in her hand before she died and what you see is her hand relaxing as she dies.
I can’t go frame by frame so I don’t know.

This death will continue to galvanize the freedom protestors...and that is what they are. They want liberty and they are not going to be satified with another puppett to a "Supreme Leader" whom they do not elect.
I have been conversing with many Iranians on twitter and they are saying "Death to Khamenie", which is something they cannot go back from.
They know that the Iraqi people and Afghan people are freer now...and whatever the problems, it is a far, far stretch more freedom than they had under Hussein or the Taliban...and the Iranians want it for themselves.
They know this...and the mullahs know it too.
This is Geroge W. Bush's vision, policies, engagement, and support of liberty continuing to play out...and Obama knows it and that's why he can;t be too positive. It would repudiate his entire misbegotten foreign policy.
Watch this longer version...the father is crying in anguish, "Neda, stay!, Neda stay!".
