Really? Wow.
The basij are basically unemployed hoodlums who take a check from the mullahs as “religious police.” They arrest kids who drink or date in normal time, and oppress the people in times like this.
Their are reports that much of the police now speaks arabic, which is strange, because almost all of Iran speaks farsi. Many people think that its hizbullah recruits from Lebanon.
The Iranian Army says it will not be forced to participate, but if things get any hairier, you might see them turn against the mullahs. Many of them remember the shah’s rule and hate the basij as well.
Andrew Sullivan is doing a great job on these riots.
It’s almost (almost!) enough to offset his asinine demand that
Sarah Palin submit to a first-ever maternity test.
That was horrifying and soooo sad.
God help these people and I don’t mean by giving them supposed ‘peace’ with a thug regime.
He was also the person responsible for pushing for nuclear ‘energy’.
The graphic part didn’t get me as much as the anguish in the father’s voice as he’s crying and watching his daughter die right in front of his eyes and know there is nothing he can do.
Maybe, maybe not. If the Iranian people succeed in gaining their freedom, we may see dramatic improvements in that part of the world. May God watch over these brave, brave people as they struggle for liberty.
I think one thing that has really grabbed the attention of the Iranian people is that they know they are screwed and ruled by the Mullahs regardless, but with Mousavi and his public adoration of his wife, the women felt that they might begin to be slightly empowered.
They take a little when they can get it, you know?

I hope this struggle takes down the mullahs. That is the only way there will be nay real change in Iran.

Brother, that is what I have been thinking all day. Makes me furious at what is going on. Just imagine what these brave souls would have been able to accomplish with weapons in hand.
I keep waiting to hear at least some group of the Iranian Army joining the fight.
I saw the video before it was pulled. The mullahs have special death squads that infiltrate crowds in street clothes and assassinate at will. Their equivalent of the Waffen SS murdering their own people.
Like most Muslims, Mousavi bathes once a year whether he needs it or not.

Yeah. It’s like rooting for Trotsky to replace Stalin. I can’t get excited about this guy.
That is why I don't see this ending until the leaders are paraded through the streets. To the Iranians they think they don't need guns because they pray with all their heart to be a martyr for God, for then they go straight to Paradise without the need to be judged, their sins forgiven them. If it's today then they will die blessing him that kills them because they know they will die doing God's work.
