Legislation set for debate today would let you carry a concealed weapon without having to bother with the background check, training and proficiency test now required.
Sen. Sylvia Allen, R-Snowflake, said she believes all Arizonans should have the right to defend themselves. Allen, who does have a state-issued permit to carry a concealed gun, said she does not believe that makes gun owners any safer.
More to the point, she said the law makes Arizonans less safe.
Allen’s proposal, SB 1270, does not do away with the concealed weapon permits. In fact, it actually would give those who do decide to get those permits the right to carry their guns into places now off limits, ranging from school campuses in certain circumstances to various public events and buildings — including, as the measure is now worded, the public gallery of the state Senate.
Her proposal drew alarm from Attorney General Terry Goddard along with a handful of police chiefs and sheriffs.
“This bill would made a radical and very dangerous change in state law,” Goddard said at a Thursday press conference. “It would put our law enforcement officers at significant increased risk.”

No laws regarding background checks or training effect them in any way.

I really don’t understand the logic in this statement, those who pose a significant threat to LE are already carrying guns as it is and 99% are most likely convicted felony already barred from guns by law.
I like the idea.
I love Sierra Vista, have been there many times. Traveled there every other week for years. Nice friendly folks. Beware of the drivers on the 1 long main street. Some are airplane pilots, and move.
Would love for Texas to have such a law. We are very pro gun anyway.

The unmitigated arrogance of some members of law enforcement. They believe only they are smart enough to handle firearms.
NOTE: I don't believe most members of law enforcement are anti-RKBA.

I have a good friend who is a Superior Court Judge, he tells me that many cops are anti RKBA.
This only makes sense.
If you can legally own a gun, you should be able to carry it, and would qualify for a permit in most states anyway. Why in the hell should you need a permit?
And all the bad guys already carry without a permit. Give the good guys a fighting chance. Nothing in the 2nd amendment requires a permit or license.

How do law abiding citizens that exercise their 2nd Amendment rights put police at risk?
They damn well don’t. They are the same people with or without their weapons.
I wish to God they’d ask the people who say this point blank that question.

That is a delusion common among LEO’s. From that Drug Enforcement chappie who shot himself in the foot in front of a class in a Miami school during a “Aren’t We Coply” talk, to far too many of the rank and file LEO’s, shooting skills are all too often just enough to pass department qualifications.
That’s not much, in most departments.
It aint’ much to pass a concealed carry test either. I don’t know why they even have those silly tests.
My dad just got his first concealed carry permit. He’s OLD! Apparently he was the star performer in the shooting aspect of the course. but then he was a pistol champion on the army pistol team when he was a kid. It was a two man team and they chose only the two best shooters on the whole base...my dad and a gray haired old alcoholic sargant that couldn’t miss even when he tried...that’s the story dad tells anyway. Supposedly the old sarge had the shakes pretty bad, but as soon as his hands touched a firearm, they steadied like a surgeon’s hands.

The dumb ones that don’t even know themselves how to handle a gun are anti. The smart ones know better than to utter such idiocy.
You will find plenty of dumb ones in the big cities where race/gender quotas, union favoritism/nepotism, and other such big government corruption runs rampant.
I got a buddy that’s a cop and votes democrat. His wife wouldn’t allow firearms in their home before he became a cop. He had to sell all of his guns to me right after they got married. I asked him about his views of private citizens owning guns after he got hired on the force, years ago. he said “we can’t be everywhere, people got to be able to handle it themselves til we get there”.
That’s all I needed to hear.
