Pollsters evaluate California special election results
Sacramento Bee ^ | 9/17/9 | Peter Hecht

Two of California's top pollsters said Tuesday that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and some lawmakers are miscasting last month's special election as a clarion call against any new taxes to solve California's fiscal crisis.

Instead, pollsters Mark DiCamillo and Mark Baldassare characterized the May 19 vote against five budget measures as an order to a dysfunctional state government to fix California's budget mess – and do so quickly.

"We've heard a lot of people say the vote means 'no new taxes.' I would question that," said Baldassare, survey director for the Public Policy Institute of California, in the pollsters' joint appearance before the Sacramento Press Club.

DiCamillo, director of the California Field Poll, said pre-election polling indicated voters favored a blend of spending cuts and "targeted taxes rather than sweeping taxes."

DiCamillo said voters opposed expanding sales taxes or boosting taxes on businesses or gasoline. But he said they widely favored "sin taxes" targeting pornography, alcohol and tobacco and strongly backed hiking income taxes on people earning more than $1 million a year.

Baldassare said the election turnout of just 28 percent of registered voters skewed strongly conservative. He said half of voters were age 55 and over and a near equal number of Republicans as Democrats turned out in a blue state.

"The vote in this election, which for some time has been described as reflecting the will of the people, doesn't reflect the will of the people," Baldassare said.

"The vote in this election, which for some time has been described as reflecting the will of the people, doesn't reflect the will of the people," Baldassare said.
In other words, it doesn't suit their agenda.

And the “polls” they threw out are largely the blatherings of the idiots (read: liberal class warfare types) who don’t see any further than what the DNC tells them to think...”Oh! Rich person! Get them! Kill the oppressor who gave you a JOB!”

Perhaps it's a clarion call against any new taxpayer funded “special elections” to solve California's fiscal crisis. They've had three “special elections” in the last six years, and none of them accomplished diddly-squat. Those referendendums could have just as easily been put before voters in a regularly scheduled election. Why California is addicted to creating new, unnecessary statewide elections every few months, I'll never know.

I’m surprised they have to try to spin the fact that the government of California is going to do whatever they want, will of the people be damned. Just do it and be done with it. It’s not like the majority of Californians are intelligent enough to vote them out.

In other words, the left does not trust an election as the will of the people. They trust a pollster that they paid for with the results they demanded.

Doesn't mean no new taxes, doesn't mean the will of the people - 62% passage rate - then what the hell does it mean?

Actually, it was a call to stop pi$$ing away our money and then coming back asking for more lest we suffer a crisis.
Definition of pi$$ing money away: paying for biased polls that tell us that's not really, really, what we meant.

This goes right in line with the SEIU advertisements.
It is a clear and coordinated effort from the left.

The hard left liberals that think they run this state cannot fathom the concept that the people, in general, do not agree with their socialist, racist, anti-business, class envy agenda. So when the people disagree they endeavor to pass off this kind of claptrap in order to ‘convince’ people - in other words they think we need ‘re-education’.

Think - Jedi mind trick.

Someone in Sacramento is REALLY scared!
The standard "firefighters and teachers layed off" line didn't work this time.

Remarkable how any dismissal of the leftist agenda does not reflect the “will of the people!” Maybe that’s why Jerry “Moonbeam” Brown decided to just ignore the results of the Prop 8 vote. They didn’t suit him, so they couldn’t have reflected the will of the people.
