This has been coming for years.
Such a shame. Quality stuff. My family and I have bought from them FOR YEARS. Even when they were mail-order.
Yes.
Green shoots.
I remember when the sold guns and real gear.
Once Spiegel bought them I knew it was way past over.
You mean all those Obama libs that by faux outdoor clothes from Eddie Bauer aren’t spending either?
Yeah, green shoots in Obama’s “Roundup” environment.
Eddie Bauer used to sell guns? Seriously? Are you sure you are not confusing it with Abercrombie & Fitch?
Oh NO!
Wait, Eddie is too big to faaaiiiil!
They need a bailout!

Atleast out west, in the 70’s.
Well, my father was an avid hunter. EB had great goose-down items and silk thermals. That was waaaaaaay before they went ‘main stream’. Orvis was another fave...along with LL Bean and Land’s End. :-)
“A company filing for bankruptcy instead of asking for a bailout”
Then there are companies that file bankruptcy AND get a bailout. Best of both worlds. Question: If GM, Chrysler, Lehman, Bauer, Visteon, Circuit City, to name just a few filed or went out of business, please tell me a business on main street that has a chance to remain solvent?
Yes, this must be some of the green shoots Obama is giving us.
The quality of his stuff was CRAPOLA when he went mass- market
I vowed never to buy a THING from them anymore after the last three items I bought fell apoart in normal use
I remember that EB had a separate catalog for newbies and the regular clients. Many items were lower priced for the newbies and the prices almost 50% higher for the regular clientele. I never understood the logic. EB also had a line of car seats in the Ford’s Explorer lines..pricey too.
I also used to shop with them when they were an actual
“Expedition Outfitter”.
My brother worked on the North Slope and on the Beaufort Sea. He was a seismic surveyor. One could buy every piece of gear needed to travel to the North, or South Pole.
Living in Northern Michigan sometimes necessitates such gear.
After being bought out, they became like any other number of retailers, such as Land’s End, J. Crew, L.L. bean, or Sears, for that matter.
‘Tis a shame.
