Angered by White House decisions on everything from greenhouse gases to car dealerships, congressional Democrats from rural districts are threatening to revolt against parts of President Barack Obamas ambitious first-year agenda.
They dont get rural America, said Rep. Dennis Cardoza, a Democrat who represents Californias agriculture-rich Central Valley. They form their views of the world in large cities.
Cardozas critique was aimed at Obamas Environmental Protection Agency, but it echoes complaints rural-district Democrats have about a number of Obama administration decisions.
I wouldnt say its a complete strikeout, but theyve just got a few more bases to it when it comes to the rural community, said Louisiana Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu.
A rural revolt could hamper the administrations ability to pass climate change and health care legislation before the August recess.
Democrats from farm states are some of the same moderate members Obama must win to get almost any piece of his agenda through the Senate: Landrieu and Sens. Max Baucus of Montana, Ben Nelson of Nebraska, and Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor of Arkansas. Without their votes, Democrats cant move legislation over Republican filibusters such as the one sure to come if the health care plan that moves through the Senate includes a public option supported by the administration.

It would tickle me pink to know that the Dem bust of the great 0 came from Middle America!
BINGO!
Change that sentence to include, “...and academia.” and I would agree.
bitter clingers.
What part of the fascists' agenda works for the rural people?
It’s about time they started waking up.
>>bitter clingers.<<
LOL!! Yep!
Oh the irony to all of it!
He doesn’t get America, period. He didn’t spend his formative years here, and he’s not an American in upbringing.
So much of the Democratic core seems to not understand and/or is actually hostile to rural America. Maybe I’m being unfair, but I just can’t think of Bill Maher and farm work going together.
He also doesn't care, as long as they vote Dem.
Correction...He’s not an American AT ALL....
I live in the country. I have my own well, septic and maintain my drive way which is over 1/4 mile long. My wife home schools. The only bill I have for “sevices” is for electricity and cell phone. My .45 and two dogs supply security. I require zero from the feds and very little from the state/county. If I could get off the electrical grid, I would.
No $hit, Dennis.
I tell ya, (not that I’m hoping it happens, btw) but just in case the everlovin’ sh*t hits the fan, I will be sitting back with popcorn with the rest of the FReepers. It should be quite the hoot to watch all these people trying to get along, day to day, without the farmers, handymen, seamstresses, mechanics, etc. If this elitist crowd has to get by, on its own devices, it will be one for the archives.
In fact, this is one of the very arguments I used (over time), to get my formerly lib elite b/f off his high horse.
Everytime something would go wrong at his place, I’d hit him with it:
(Car broke) “Hey babe, why don’t you call a French Lit major from Harvard?”
(AC/Heat broke) “Honey, I was just thinking today...the next time that happens to me, I’m going to call the kid up the street who just got his master’s in Philosophy to see if he can help me out!”
(Roof leaking onto electrical box) “That reminds me, I gotta call back my cousin, Dr. Diane, who has her PhD in Women’s History.”
LOL...evidently I made my point. :)
What's this "they" $hit?
Here’s a little vignette for all of you. I have a friend who claims to be a liberal and votes for all of the liberal politicians. I am on his e-mail list. A list in which he sends e-mails that rail against gun control, illegal immigration and taxes. Again, this is coming from someone who claims to be a liberal democrat.
Some people out here really don’t get it as far as who is fighting for the things they believe in. Granted, not all Republicans, but the majority of the people fighting for what he (and I) believe in are in the Republican party, yet he helped to elect Obama. There’s a lot of disconnect going on out there...
Sorry rural Dems, but you voted for him. Discovering you were used desptite being warned is hard to take isn’t it? Idiots.
Remember what he said to his wine and cheese buddies in San Francisco?
He thinks Non-urbanites are hicks.
You might want to mention that what is going on in Iran, could not get off the ground here, thanks to our framers. They foresaw something just like the tyranny in Iran and we have a 2nd amendment as a consequence.
Wish I could remember all of this (perhaps someone will fill in the missing details), but I remember reading (a long time ago) the reason why the Japanese general in WWII ruled out an attack on the U.S. mainland. Had something to do with knowing there would be a gun behind every blade of grass.
heh
