Congrats to both of you. 33 years for me.

Faithfulness is the foundation of trust that is the glue in a marriage. Love is an emotion, but faithfulness is a decision.

Can any Freepers share their hard earned knowledge and wisdom of how a marriage can survive such a breach of trust, as what happened with Sen. Ensign?

Good points. Except you did not point out that the Dems have no standards at all, so they don't have to live up to anything. They only hold us to our standards, fiercely, because they know we claim to have them.

Political insiders in the Senate and in Nevada told POLITICO that Ensign began the affair with the staffer several months after he separated from his wife,

Can you read "spin, cover story", if he had really been separated from his wife a few months back it would have been in the news some where. Not that convenient cover story that just suddenly pops up..

Marriage is about “we” not “me”. Once you learn that, you got it made. 39 years here. Sometimes I still wrestle with “we”. :-)

"The woman was still married."

So was HE! There was no divorce...He was still married - just not living with his wife.

These pigs that can't keep their pants zipped are tiresome, already. They make me sick.

Dammit, we were praying for the OTHER Nevada Senator to screw up, not this one!

I never said otherwise. And the woman’s husband is no prize either.

I’m really sorry to hear this. Why can’t men keep it in their pants, especially when they’re married to someone else? Grrr. His chances for becoming president don’t look too hot, although Clinton...

He’s a Christian and should have known better. Being separated is no excuse. He was still married and he knows what God thinks of adultery. It saddens me.

KoRn: “That may be. I enjoy the site of a nice ass as much as anyone, I just don’t hit it unless I’m married to it.”

I don’t know of anyone who doesn’t appreciate beauty, and women can be extremely beautiful. There’s nothing wrong with admiring such beauty so long as one doesn’t desire to have it (to lust after it). Speaking spiritually here, there’s a chain of events between recognizing beauty and sin. The trick is knowing how to break that chain before admiration grows into something more sinister.

All people have weaknesses. A wise person avoids those temptations that hit weak spots, turning away early in the process. For example, some people cannot control their consumption of alcohol. For those people, it’s best to avoid it completely. Other folks have no problem responsibly enjoying a drink or two.

As for David, Bathsheba’s beauty wasn’t sinful, nor was David’s realization that she was beautiful. Sin didn’t happen until later when he desired to have what was not meant for him.

We are all sinners. We can all repent too.

Marysecretary: “Why can’t men keep it in their pants, especially when they’re married to someone else?”

Why can't SOME men keep it in their pants.

I think the belief that men can't keep it in their pants is part of the problem. I hate to tell ya, but some of us men think with our minds, not our genitalia. To often those who can't control themselves get a free pass. That's not to say I don't like sex. Like most folks, I love it. It's just to say I understand how God established marriage to allow us to satisfy ourselves in ways that are healthy, proper, and fun.

Naturally. But the damage has been done to his soul, his career, his relationship with his wife. Sin is forgiven but there are still consequences.

Sure, what’s so wrong about screwing your good friend’s wife. You’re separated!
Have a good time with your friend’s goodies.

Why is it so difficult for these politicians that are all supposed to be ‘above us’ to do the same thing?

Most run for office as an ego and power thing. And just like rock stars and pro athletes, you wouldn't believe how many attractive women hit on politicians who are even halfway young and attractive. It's a very tough thing for people with a runaway ego not to succumb to the temptation of their own groupies, as it were.

I'm not excusing the affair. I'm just saying that the women in a politician's orb are more likely to make saying "no" tougher than it is for the average schlub.

That's what made the Monica Lewinsky stuff so shocking. Clinton could certainly cheat with better women than that (and probably did) which made the whole thing seem even more tawdry than it already was.
