Its always a great idea to have the humiliated wife forced to continue supporting her husband.
Just ask Eliot Spitzer.
IIRC, Vitter trotted out his wife at a news presser too, during his admission of wrong doing. And Edwards. And Craig. And the list goes on and on.
They get elected and seem to contract a form of downzipperitis.

Just once -- and mind you I'm not advocating violence here -- but just once I'd like to see one of those aggrieved wives at one of those press conferences stick a fork into her spouse's forehead.... the way Elaine did to an ex-boyfriend on Seinfeld.

"They get elected and seem to contract a form of downzipperitis."No offense to you faithful men, but one does not need to be elected to anything to catch it. Some are never cured.

Not really. Congress is also a reflection of society and the percent of extramarital affairs are stunningly high in our society. I really don't expect Congress to be any different, but that doesn't make it OK.
And it has been stated that this occurred while they were separated. Since the husband tried to shake Ensign down, it doesn't make him appear as bad since the scum wanting money seems worse.
A mighty ugly situation all around and a reminder that people in public office and in sensitive positions in govt are ripe for blackmailing.

You know, I really wish they would not trot out their poor wives. It is like cruelty heaped on cruelty :-(
