That won’t last, some high-ranker’s kid will get shot or beaten and that’ll be all it takes...something tells me the Basji are about to get swept out...the question is...will it stop there?

Once the killing gets started in earnest, it's hard to predict where things will go. There hasn't been much killing -- yet.

Thank you for that excellent report. I agree: I think that unless the Revolutionary Guard step in, or the Basiji-at-risk are heavily upgunned a lot of Basiji are going to end up dead, and the counter-coup will turn hot.

Anyway: this picture from your link is amazing. We can never underestimate the impact of a Cedar-Revolution style chick picture on Western sensibilities.

I don’t think we’re very far off from that? What time is sunset in Tehran our time?

Persiankiwi reports from the scene: were attacked in streets by mob on motorbikes with batons - firing guns into air - streetfires all over town - roads closed;

It has begun.

Just noticed something that could potentially heat things up in Iran if this lasts much longer.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2272302/posts

Evidently a new strain of stem rust has spread to Iran and is seriously threatening wheat crops there, and will likely be driving up prices. Food shortages at a time like this can really make things turn ugly quickly. Remember, the French Revolution largely began as a bread riot.

Maybe that’s the reason the vote got rigged? The mullahs knew the next crop was going to be a bad one, so they arranged this clumsy “coup” as an excuse to clamp down ahead of the oncoming famine...hey, most places, that’s insane conspiracy theory...in Iran?...

The plan to eliminate the religious police was probably what triggered the election fraud and the Basiji attacks on the demonstrators.

Sounds eminently sensible.

This is political life or death for those who rely on the Basiji, including many thousands of Basiji block-commanders or whatever they're called. A touch-paper has been lit and the Basiji may get a bloody nose: more likely their many urban barracks will be burnt out wholesale.

But will the Revolutionary Guard come in on the Basiji's side? And will the normal police and the Army come in on the other?

Iran has a lot of unproductive poor, who are the base of support for the Islamic state. If they can’t be fed, then things will turn real ugly, real fast.

Now we see if the kids fight back...fact is, folks are hiding them already, they have the belly for this fight...now we just have to have a POTUS, not a TOTUS that will unequivocally say “We got your six guys..go get them...”

Good feed. Things that jumped out at me:

Homeowners in Rasht (city in North Iran, the largest city along the Caspian sea coast) are giving refuge to people running from Baseej attacks.

Karroubi is rumoured to be leading a march on Khameini's residence.

The Iranian people would like hackers to bring down Iranian Government websites.

All of that’s well and good...but how soon before the RG and the military choose sides...Something tells me sooner if this keeps up...and it’s likely they may come down on opposite sides.
