GOSHEN, Ind. - Coachmen Industries, no longer part of the slumping recreational vehicle industry, could start hiring soon as part of a $3.5 million expansion that it expects to create more than 200 jobs.
The Elkhart County Council has approved $135,661 in local property tax abatements over 10 years on the company's promise to create 234 jobs over three years.
Coachmen Chief Executive Officer Rich Lavers said the company is moving ahead with its plans and could start hiring new workers next month.
"We're not standing still," Lavers said Saturday. "We're moving forward."

Just because Coachman "promises" 234 new jobs doesn't necessarily mean they will hire 234 people.

I’ve often wondered how many people collecting government checks could be encouraged to go back to work for promises of, say, no payroll taxes. If tax abatements work for companies, it should work for individuals as well.
For the past two are three years the loneliest business in America was and is a motor home are camper dealership. LOL

That's where the article gets confusing. Looks to me like Coachman had already sold off its RV division and were planning to shift their focus towards manufactured housing.
However, the article mentions the tax break enabling Coachman to buy equipment for the production of "specialized buses, high-tech cabinetry and a new line of specialty vehicles."
Hmm... "specialized buses". Why does that sound ominous?

I smell a federal procurement.
“Specialized buses” sounds like vehicles needed for entertainers, and others who need to move between smaller towns not served by airlines. Nothing ominous about it.
I'd like to believe that. However...
