FR EXCLUSIVE: RON NEHRING, CALIF GOP CHAIRMAN TO FREEP YOUR QUESTIONS--ASK AWAY!

FR EXCLUSIVE: RON NEHRING, CALIF GOP CHAIRMAN TO FREEP YOUR QUESTIONS! -- ASK AWAY!

I was invited to participate in a strategic GOP meeting on June 5, during which many topics including the Internet, voter registration and fundraising were discussed from a tech/strategy standpoint.

Durind the event I had the chance to speak with Ron Nehring, California GOP Chairman. I mentioned to him that GOP leadership is perceived as RINOs (Republicans In Name Only) by much of the grassroots.

When I noted that an enormous GOP opportunity exists among both Republicans and Democrats on the issue of our borders, fighting blatant amnesty for criminal aliens, he replied--much to my surprise--that in his eight years in leadership not a single candidate has sought his counsel on this topic.

We discussed GOP party involvement in the primary process. If I understood correctly what he said, candidates are not assisted by party leadership until after they win a primary--Republican candidates must slug it out with their own local efforts and resources. This is a marked difference from the 'central casting' done effectively by the DNC.

As we spoke, I suggested to Ron that he participate in an online discussion at FreeRepublic, and mentioned that Duncan Hunter has done so. He agreed.

I then spoke with Jim Robinson and mentioned how I'd like this to serve as a template for not just California but for the leadership of all 50 state GOPs and for the RNC to do likewise, as a means of being sure the voting, contributing grassroots and the state and national leadership are all committed to winning the same platform. If merely "a failure to communicate" is the problem, FR can be the solution.

Here's how Ron and I agreed it would go: I would solicit worthwhile questions (QUESTIONS THAT GENERATE MORE LIGHT THAN HEAT), and then Ron would then respond online.

This thread is the one that is soliciting your questions, publicly or by FREEPMAIL ("Private Reply"). I will screen the public and private questions and arrange a follow-up thread where the questions and answers will be published in a few days, hopefully interactively.

While this is the California GOP, those of you in other states please feel welcome to clone this effort so as to give your state leadership the best possible chance to show strong commitment to all issues that relate to Conservatism and the GOP. I also welcome privately-submitted suggestions and background information. Whether public or private, be sure your issue is specific and verifiable.

Please be certain that the questions are framed in a neutral, non-hostile manner, without false premises or profanity or they will be pulled. However, DON'T shy away from asking tough questions. Remember, "Loose Lips Sink Ships" so use discretion in what you post publicly. I can ask Ron Nehring private questions. Freepmail and spellcheck are your friend.

Please accept my thanks in advance for your participation.

BTW... We don't do much grunt work for the GOP but we write big checks when the candidate is a clone of Tom McClintock or
Ronald Reagan...

This is Charlie Brown’s chance to ask some hard, important questions.

Asking is easy. Getting real answers is another story.

Here's one, though, if you insist:

The heart of the Reagan platform is the recognition of the personhood of the child in the womb and their protection by the Fourteenth Amendment. Everywhere in America.

The foregoing being irrefutably true, what concrete steps are you willing to take to make sure that every Republican candidate will keep their sworn oath to fulfill the Constitution's ultimate stated purpose, which is to "secure the Blessings of Liberty to our Posterity"?

AIP, CP, etc. only and will only get enough votes on state elections to be disrupters and give the election to the Liberal Democrats. Same in National elections.

Hardly matters if the Republicans are liberals too.

Dear Mr. Nehring,

I have been trying to interest the GOP in a way to beat the environmental left for ten years to no avail. I hold the first patent in free market environmental management, own the finest example of native plant habitat on the Central Coast, and have documented extensive corporate corruption behind environmental regulation.

Why does the GOP only listen to think tanks whose "experts" never do the work they espouse and never get out from behind their desks because they are too busy fund-raising?

Aren't you getting tired of getting creamed recycling the same old ideas along with pale-green enviro-light?

"If I understood correctly what he said, candidates are not assisted by party leadership until after they win a primary--Republican candidates must slug it out with their own local efforts and resources."

Yet look at whats happening in Florida with Crist. Supporting yet another RINO against a conservative BEFORE the primary.

In the House and Senate, having the majority also means
having the Chairman of the committees and call the shots
along with the extra person on the comm.

The few who are the more Liberal such as the Sens. in Maine, won’t get any better unless you deport thousands of citizens of Maine and put in conservative residents from
other states.

The reality is, if a state has a vast majority of Liberal
voters, that is what you get.

Also the Public Schools K -12 in every state are the breeding grounds for the Left Wing. Every year means
Millions of new Democrat voters. Univs. are the reinforcement for the Left wing.

Then you have MSM. etc.

It is not just a matter of a Conservative on a ticket,
it is what you have as a voter base.

San Diego has Duncan Hunter, Bilbray and Issa, all great Conservative Republicnas in Congress.
Then two of our dists. are Democrat and no way in hell will you get even a Moderate Republican to win.

I would like to have all Conservative Republicans

You have to face reality, do the math, and wishing doesn’t make it so.

xzins: You are the classic example of someone I do not understand at all.

If I am correct you are a Methodist minister. The Methodist church has gone totally apostate and certainly promotes socialism. Please explain to me why you demand more from a political party than a church.

I demand far more from my church than my political party. You would never stand for the Republican party to do the things the Methodist church espouses. I don't get it.

all great Conservative Republicnas

Billbray is a pro-abort liberal, one who brags about using taxpayer's dollars to give to Planned Parenthood. He manages to cover that and fool some with strong pro-borders language. Issa loved Arafat and thinks Hezbollah is legitimate. So, your whole premise, and thereby your whole post, falls to pieces.

Ron,

California's recent budget crisis seems to be providing an opportunity for some straight talk with the populace.

Can we engage in a dialog about the true cost -- in our education, health care, and social services -- of illegal immigration in the state of California, and what the federal government can and should be doing to reimburse California for these costs in light of federal mandates?

I would start with doing with what we can.
(1) Health care only for US citizens.
(2) Schools only for US citizens and legal residents.
(3) Special jails with harsh conditions for illegal aliens who commit crimes.
(4) College aid only for legal residents.
(5) Direction to district attorneys to only pursue crimes against legal residents.

Imagine cutting state costs by a third, with the level of service to legal residents unchanged. Would that help?

I agree with what you said wholeheartedly. I attended the Sacramento Tea Party on April 15th. I was there early and was able to talk with lots of people as well as several people surrounding me including Democrats who are as angry as we are. The California Republican Party needs to be upfront about all the issues facing California and offer non-Liberal solutions. People are angry and the hot topic is politics while talking to neighbors in front of their houses, talking in line at the grocery store, talking politics at the health food store and elsewhere. The disaster that is California, created by the Liberal-dominated Assembly, has created a climate whereby conservative Republicans can offer solutions and gain votes. We must find candidates with spine, guts, and a willingness to talk straight. Political speak is not wanted by anyone; the public is angry and they want answers now. We need candidates like Patton. Say it like it is and move forward.

I think the GOP should demand a detailed and in-depth audit of the entire state government including all programs. Cut all waste and duplications, find the graft and corruption, and promise to represent the voters in California who are asking for an all around cleaning of the State’s house including stopping all funding of illegals in every way.

Mr. Nehring, in the 2006 statewide election, most of the resources went into re-electing Arnold Schwarzenegger at the expense of the remainder of the statewide ticket, even after polls showed Schwarzenegger winning and the Democrats giving up on that race to fund the other races. Needed funds could have been used to get Tom McClintock elected as Lt. Governor and have him in good position to win the governorship in 2010.

I still have the "Arnold and Tom Victory '06" sign from the convention that year in San Jose when the Arnold/Tom ticket was promoted as a unit during the convention, but didn't come to fruition when push came to shove in the general election when the funds didn't come McClintock's way that he could have used from the state party.

This is way so many of the grassroots will not contribute to the state party. So the question is how can we ever be confident in the state party after the '06 debacle?
