Washington, DC (AHN) - Donald Remy, President Barack 0bama's choice to be the Army's general counsel, dropped out of the running after taking criticism from the Senate Armed Services Committee for not disclosing his ties with Fannie Mae.
He described his time at Fannie Mae, the quasi-governmental mortgage giant responsible for much of the housing crisis, as work for "a major U.S. company." Other companies he was associated with he named specifically, according to news reports.
Congressional Quarterly obtained his letter of withdrawal Friday. In it he said, "I am honored by your confidence in my ability to deal with the critical issues that face our soldiers and their families and I was looking forward to serving in this time of great national crisis. Regretfully, I have decided to remove my name from consideration for this position."
Fox News reported that Remy served in various posts at Fannie Mae, including vice president and deputy counsel for litigation.
0bama accepted Remy's resignation Friday afternoon and said through a spokesman that although he thought Remy would be an "excellent general counsel of the Army," he understood "his personal decision and the choice he has made."
Just more proof that my tagline for 2009 is still valid.

I’ve never seen an administration with so many nominees forced/choose to back out of confirmation. Can they not pass the tax audits or is a look behind the scenes of this White House just scare the hell out of them?
