Rep. Patrick Kennedy Returns to Treatment for Substance Abuse
Fox News ^ | 06/12/09 | unknown

Rep. Patrick Kennedy, who has struggled with depression, alcoholism and addiction for much of his life, said Friday that he has checked into a medical facility for treatment. The Rhode Island Democrat said in a statement that his recovery is a "lifelong process" and that he will do whatever it takes to preserve his health. "I have decided to temporarily step away from my normal routine to ensure that I am being as vigilant as possible in my recovery," Kennedy said. He did not disclose where he was being treated. Kennedy, who has wrestled with alcoholism, bipolar disorder, an addiction to prescription drugs and bouts of binge drinking, has often spoken publicly about his recovery and the importance of removing any stigma associated with mental illnesses. He has been a leading voice in Congress on mental health issues. "I hope that in some small way my decision to be proactive and public in my efforts to remain healthy can help remove the stigma that has served as a barrier for many Americans reluctant to get the help they needed," he said. Kennedy's office declined to offer any details about the congressman's health or what prompted him to seek treatment. He sought the treatment in the last few days, his office said.

Just being a Kennedy. I wonder if health insurance rationing will cover this.

Yet another down-generation Kennedy example of inbreeding and too much money.

Drug addiction are God’s way of telling you you have too much money.

He wouldn't want to resign his office and actually get his life in order, would he? For a Kennedy, living off of the public’s teat is a way of life.

Did he cast a vote on the way to the tank so he couldn’t be arrested for DWI?

So he stresses the “importance of removing any stigma associated with mental illnesses”. Sounds like he wants a free pass for ill people like him to be elected. There must be something bigoted about the voters if they don’t vote for the mentally ill.

Remember the old PSA about a kid copying what his father did--and then the last shot was the Dad lighting up a cigarette? "Like father, like son....Like father..."

Well...like father, like son here too.

Since so many Kennedys have chemical abuse problems, I wonder if they get a discount for their rehab.

He is bug f... crazy. But he will continue to be elected.
How..does anyone with these problems manage to do anything meaningfull in his job? Of course the GOP never says anything bad about the Rats in congress. If this were a member of the GOP..they NYT and WCompost would be screaming for his resignation and saying that all Pubs were the same and covering for him.

MSM: Democratic congrssman with lifelong drug addiction problem. Nothing to see here. We don’t even need to tell you what he is addicted to. Speaking of addicited, radio host Rush Limbaugh was as one time addicted to prescription pain killers. He should be arrested, prosecuted, and thrown in jail.

Kennedy: what drug problem?
Limbaugh: crucify him.

At least the MSM is still consistent.

When it’s a Kennedy it’s, “Poor Kennedy’s. We ALL have these issues at one time or another”. With any conservative it’s, “Loser. Can’t control his own life! Doesn’t have the character to hold public office”.

I certainly wish Mr. Kennedy well in facing his challenges, but I think it's high time he realized that someone with this extensive list of pathologies isn't even fit to work as my receptionist -- let alone serve in a governing capacity in the most powerful nation in the world.

That’s true; what with Ted and Joan I’ve often said that Patrick’s blood when he was born was 60 proof...

Very true. If both parents are addicted to alchohol or drugs, then the child has a very high chance of having the same issues.

Yeah I posted the parody lyrics I did to that song on another thread. Also I called Howie Carr’s chumpline and I hope it’ll be aired tonight with me singing it

My daddy was a drunk old man
I could see him with the bottle in his hand
He put a blonde in the pond
Never thought he did anything wrong
Never spent any time in jail
Got re-elected without fail
Oh life’s not easy for a Kennedy
The booze and the broads and the pills you see
One day Daddy called me to his dyin’ bed
Poured himself a Chivas and with tears he said

He said Patches I’m depending on you son to pull
the family through
My son it’s all left up to you.

Exactly....If he were a Republican, he would either be hounded out of office by his own party, the MSM, the Democrats, or most likely, ALL of the above.

depression, alcoholism and addiction

I wish him the best but is this the best the nation has to offer for our political leaders?
