The four Uighurs recently released from the Guantanamo terror prison have already begun to make themselves at home on the beautiful island of Bermuda.
On their first full day of freedom after seven years behind bars, the Chinese Muslims took care of the basics: buying toothpaste, a few clothes and going for a much-longed after walk.
They also spent a large chunk of their day phoning loved ones.
"They came with basically nothing," their lawyer Sabin Willett told the Daily News.
"They came with some prison garb, a caricature of street clothes, looking bearded and scraggly."
In stark contrast to the men's sparse living quarters in the maximum security facility, they spent last night in a modest cottage with a view of the sea.
The men, aged 25 to 35, are temporarily sharing two bedrooms, until a longer-term solution can be worked out, Willett said.
The Uighurs - ethnic Turk Muslims from China opposed to the Communist regime, landed in Bermuda at about 6:30 a.m. Thursday after a 2 1/2-hour flight from Cuba.
The Justice Department had determined the men posed no threat of a terror strike.
They immediately began acquainting themselves with their new surroundings, with the help of a local guide and an interpreter.
Two of them are believed to speak English.
"It was a wonderful day," Willett explained, saying the Bermuda locals had embraced their new neighbors, with one exception.
"At one moment the guys were in a little store to buy some pants and a couple shirts. The radio was on in the background talking all about Jihad," he explained.
"The guy in the store said: 'Take no notice of that guy, and welcome to Bermuda.'
"He gave each guy a baseball cap," Willett said.
The group also visited a campground and took a walk through some woods, and up into a field.
It was their first long walk in seven years.
"A horse appeared - they hadn't seen a horse in seven years," Willett said.
"It was a beautiful moment, you could tell were just moved to see this horse."
They also found time for a brief kick of a soccer ball after noticing a group of teenagers playing in a nearby field as they left a restaurant.
They are just "coming alive again," Willett said.
The four men have arrived in Bermuda on "guest worker" permits but it remains unclear where they will end up being employed. Willet said "it could be construction work, it could be grounds keeping work."
The men are free, and not under special surveillance. But they cannot leave the island under the terms of their visas.
Just what the world needs ... for a bunch of guys who trained at an al-qaeda affiliated camp to "come alive."
Well, I have to admit, this really is CHANGE.
I wonder who's paying for this? A hotel room in Bermuda starts around $400 a night.
Great. I’m glad Bermuda loves them.
What? What was that? Who said what to whom? And when was the lat time you heard a radio talking "all about jihad"?
This is just surreal.
A boycott of tourism might work. What Anerican wants to chance being blown up in Bermuda by an Uighur terrorist?
The same people who paid for all those relatives of Obama to vacation in Paris.
My mayor lives in Bermuda when he’s not here.
I think we are going to send the island $200 million for taking these terrorists.
REPREHENSIBLE, but what can you expect from human waste in the form of Liberals.
Alrighty then. Add Bermuda to the boycott list.
I had to check out the article to see whether it had what was in your post.
Surreal doesn’t begin to describe this.
I am flabbergasted - that dopey article needs an interpreter!
Next we are going to give them each 72 virgins.

This is what it should be
Rather than this.
I hope they don’t do anything crazy, but won’t be surprised if they do.
I don’t know what state security is like on Palau or Bermuda, but I’m sure it’s nothing that the ChiComs can’t deal with if they want these guys bad enough
Bermuda- the North Atlantic’s first Islamic “republic”, soon-to-be.
Well that's OK then as long as the taxpayers are getting screwed again. Wonder what it would be like if the government spent money in proportion on those who actually earned it. To be honest, I think Bermuda is one of the most boring (and expensive) places on earth anyway.
