Gov. Ed Rendell believes Teva Pharmaceuticals would make the ideal tenant for his future Horsham Joint Interagency Installation.
So much so, he would like the Navy to transfer 150 acres of land at the Willow Grove Naval Air Station immediately so he doesn't lose the giant generic drug manufacturer to another location.
The Navy is scheduled to leave the base by September 2011 and the commonwealth is planning for the land to be turned into a mix of military and governmental agencies dedicated to national defense, homeland security and emergency preparedness.
But to keep the base self-sustaining, it needs to attract tenants from the private sector, so the state has been meeting with Teva for about a year about its possible construction of a North American distribution center there.

Eminent domain here we come!
Eminent domain?
The Naval base is not private property.
Economy must be really in the toilet for Rendal to have his panties in a bunch over a concrete slab, metal building and some guys driving forklifts with pallets of pills.
Good point. I stand corrected. I wonder then, what pressure he can bear?
Fast Eddie is the absolute worst.
Literally everything he does is the opposite of what should be done.
The only reason he is governor is that this state has two large urban welfare areas where people are paid to breed.
Yes, attempting to get industry into your state is so awful. And, if I’m not mistaken, he CRUSHED Lynn Swann by 20%. You could eliminate the votes of those ‘paid to breed’ and he’d still have won the state easily.
All your bases are belong to us!
I think his only “weapon” is whatever political pressure he can put on congress to force early closure of the base.
Sounds like you like Fast Eddie.
If you really believe he is looking to help the state by getting biz in here you are out of your mind.
He is one of the most corrupt pols there is and only helps if there is something in it for him.
BTW, what’s your DU screenname?
Good luck speeding up the environmental cleanup effort.
Truth be told, Congress can exempt them from that as well; IF enough money is put into enough hands, that is.
You’re forgetting about all of the “voters” registered by ACORN that voted for Fast Eddie. Republicans don’t have the luxury of these votes (nor do they WANT illegal votes).
I’d really hate to see this happen. We’re a few miles from the base, and once it’s developed, it’s gone for good. As long as its in use for some kind of national security purpose, it could be re-commissioned if circumstances dictated. Once it has a mix of commercial development, that option is effectively eliminated. I was against the base closure; many of us were. This is the closest base to Philadelphia, with its port and refineries.
