...concerns have been raised about the course the President has thus far chosen to reveal. Robert Pear for the New York Times reports that the AMA will oppose a government sponsored insurance plan that Mr. Obamas plan is thus far espousing. The opposition of the AMA could well be an insurmountable hurdle to the Obama Administrations plans for Socialized Health Care.
The Times goes further:
But in comments submitted to the Senate Finance Committee, the American Medical Association said: The A.M.A. does not believe that creating a public health insurance option for non-disabled individuals under age 65 is the best way to expand health insurance coverage and lower costs. The introduction of a new public plan threatens to restrict patient choice by driving out private insurers, which currently provide coverage for nearly 70 percent of Americans.
If private insurers are pushed out of the market, the group said, the corresponding surge in public plan participation would likely lead to an explosion of costs that would need to be absorbed by taxpayers.

Doctors will all be trained at government-run Medical schools. Equal education for all!
OK, I get it. Either support low payments through the guise of Medicare or support a higher percentage of low payments through the guise of government-run healthcare. Brilliant.
What a joke. The Dems goal is to ELIMINATE Medicare through a one-payer system so for the AMA to supposedly "need" the Dems support is simply dangerous to their ethical and monetary health.
I don’t think that’s what he was saying. I think he was making the point that the liberal AMA had no problem with Obama bullying a bunch of CEOs, reducing their salaries, etc. - but now, when Obama’s coming after the doctors’ own salaries, only then did they start protesting. It’s the AMA’s hypocrisy that is disgusting.
I have no problem with doctors making a lot of money. They’ve certainly earned it a lot more than the Jennifer Anistons and Michael Vicks of this world. I’m just disgruntled with the AMA for its promotion of double standards and its longtime support for gun control fascism.
“The AMA I saw yesterday was not the AMA I’ve known for 20 years.”
But, it feels so good Ethyl
Great Britain has a critical shortage of physicians. Most are now from third world countries and the quality of care is sub par.
Sub par is an understatement.
those lefty Docs can work in Fidel Obama’s sugar cane harvest every year....stoooopid bastids!
Let the AMA statement be the final nail in ostammercare. Docs know this is a lose-lose for themselves and their patients.
Yada, yada, yada, they will do whatever the he!! they want, now that they seem to have the Supreme Court, supporting his crazy takeover of Auto companies.
DID you know that the Clintons put a cap on the number of Doctors that would attend and graduate?
He’s a Chicago thug, probably threaten their families.
I agree, but let’s never underestimate the media’s ability to squelch or smear andy entity speaking against the messiah.
I work in the healthcare field and I only know of 1 physician (a dentist) that supports a national government subsidized policy...only 1.
Keeping my fingers crossed!
I think the poster was referring to the hypocrisy of leftwing doctors. As they learn how they’re going to get hammered financially, they’re suddenly no longer keen on ostammercare.
The government should be less involved, not more. Obamas plan for socialized medicine will result in poor quality care, fewer doctors and hospitals, long waits for treatment, and most importantly, lack of individual choice - Freedom. America has the best health care in the world, driven by competition and the research and innovation of free enterprise. It seems that Obama and Congress are determined to ruin the great medical care we already enjoy.
About long waits for treatment: this is more than just an inconvenience. It is the government preventing me from getting treatment, and that could result in my untimely death. In other words, I will have lost my right to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”.
Plus, the national debt is already staggering and unsustainable. Even if it were good policy, which it isnt, socialized medicine is too expensive. Obamas accumulation of debt exceeds that of all previous presidents in American history combined, and thats not even counting the unfunded liabilities for Socialist Security and Medicare.
Obama and his Socialist Congress are on a path to destroy capitalism, freedom, and your life. EVERYONE - write to your congressmorons every day.
What are you talking about? The UK’s NHS is doing fine! /sarc

“Wasnt the AMA or some group of concerned doctors running ads for socialized medicine during the campaign?”
Yes, they were. They must have seen the light. I want to know when the AARP is going to realize that nationalized health care is a way to eliminate the sick and elderly?
