Fox News Host Gretchen Carlson: Government Unfairly Shutdown My Parents' GM Dealership
NewsBusters ^ | June 10, 2009 | Jeff Poor

Many have claimed the federal government was playing fast and loose with the rules surrounding its takeover of General Motors and the circumstances surrounding the selection of which dealerships would remain open and those that wouldn't. Fox News' Gretchen Carlson came forward with evidence of this through a personal account of dealership closings.

Carlson, a co-host on the Fox News Channel's morning show "Fox & Friends," appeared on Glenn Beck's June 9 program and questioned the logic behind the decision reached by the government and General Motors (GM) to close down a dealership that has been in her family for 90 years.

"I'd like to get a hold of the car czar too," Carlson said. "Never did I think personally that I would need to get a hold of him, but now I do because my parents have owned a General Motors dealership in Anoka, Minn., for 90 years and they were terminated last week and they would like to know why. They would like to know why from the car czar."

Not true. The percentage of closings are normal against the population of the donations. The closing dealerships were +4% in contributions to the Republicans. The entire population of dealerships were +4% in contributions to the Republicans.

This is a red herring. There doesnt seem to be any clear reasoning used. I am sure that somewhere, someone has some. But it wasnt political.

Since the affirmative action figure's car czar refuses to reveal the criteria used to decide which dealerships to close and which to consolidate with the proceeds from the closed ones, how can anyone say this is not a political maneuver to consolidate the affirmative action goals of this Marxist/fascist administration?

if NO dealers that support democraps are being closed, and only dealers that support republicans are being closed, this is a HUGE DEAL

Its only a hugh deal if all RAT dealers are allowed to stay open and no GOP dealers are allowed to stay open. In other words, an analysis has to be done of the dealerships that will remain open, and not just the dealerships that are being closed. Until then, this is a waste of digital space.

Well, they are aren’t they?

Yes they are, and the morning show hosts are supposed to talk about themselves and their families. That's why I don't watch the morning shows.

Didn't a dealer on On The Record with Greta Van Susteren several days ago say that new dealerships were already being opened? Many dealerships were owned by Republicans/Republican donors. I remember it being said that at least 80% were owned by Republicans. I think that is why the dealerships were attacked in the first place. New dealershipships are opening that are probably run by Obama supporters. This is bow down to Obama if you want to buy or sell starting to happen it looks like. I don't think even Conservatives are even slightly aware of the power Obama is amassing in this Country and how he is/will use it to lift up those who are for him and try to destroy those who are not.

I am glad that she is speaking out! What idiots to choose a dealership who has a family member with national tv presence. I am in sales and I talk to people all over the country, they are downright scared and angry! I don’t work in the car business but I speak with local business owners who have been talking about friends losing their dealerships. It is gonna get ugly.

Mentioned this to a person the other day. They asked, where did you hear that and I responded, Fox News. They snickered and said, “that’s what you get from Fox, lies.”

According to her they exceeded their goal of 103%. I’m telling you, I heard from a client in Ohio that his buddy lost his dealership, which was profitable, been in the family for generations.

Now that I’m writing this, maybe the criteria is to take away from the generational family ownerships and give to the newer guys, you know, so everyone gets a piece of the pie. All BS.

Yep maybe.......

But then again it just maybe decisions made upon the business model that was chosen to be the future of GM. I’m sure every store that got closed has a hard luck story to tell the public about how they were infringed upon in some way.

What percentage of total car dealership owners are Republican donors? If that’s at 83% too, then it’s not significant that they were 83% of the closings.

That is very intereting, however the United States Government has no business picking and choosing who stays open. From what I understand, these car dealers purchase their parts and cars up front. They are NOT being compensated for their inventories. That is stealing in my view.

Can someone tell me if I am wrong about he inventories? What is happening to the millions of dollars of merchandise that the dealerships have already paid for?

I’ll find out.

What lends credibility to the hypothesis is that in several areas where there were 5-6 “republican” dealerships and one or two “democrat” dealerships, all the Rs were closed while the Ds were allowed to remain open.

What is coming to light now is that some of these select dealerships were part of larger companies that donated heavily to the DNC, and in some cases made donations after the intent to close a nummber of dealerships was made public.

Who did the picking and choosing? What was the criteria used? You know? I don’t. You hear the ones being eliminated hollering and that would be expected.

Inventories are being disposed of in different ways I’d venture. Chrysler used a quick franchisee phase out, June 9, 2009 [which I think was extended a week or so because of the SCOTUS filing] whereas GM used a longer one [Oct. 2010] thus GM dealers have more time to shut down.

I don’t know how accurate:
http://www.cbn.com/cbnnews/us/2009/June/GM-Chrysler-Say-Cutting-Dealerships-Necessary/
snip.....
Chrysler says its departing dealerships have resold or redistributed over 90 percent of their inventory and parts through a company program.
end snip.
