Lednica 2000 The Holy Happening
June 6,2009
One hundred thousand young boys and girls gathered at the Lednica Lake, the place of the Baptism of Poland, where the first historical ruler of Poland, Mieszko I, accepted Christianity in AD966. Since 2000 this has been a place of annual Polish Catholic youth meetings that last for two days. The high point of the celebration is a nocturnal walk under a massive steel fish structure, a symbol of Christianity. Doing this, the Polish youth solemnly confirm its faith in Jesus Christ, passed down from generation to generation.

Sad to say, the US would never issue such a stamp today.

I’ll have some of your good Polish soup please!
We have a great Polish deli downtown here - great meats, coldcuts, cheeses, desserts, Polish and German canned goods, fresh Polish breads and mucho more
A real deli delight and wonderful hard-working couple-owner and counter staff
Clean too

I know, you’ve talked of that before. I can remember some good foods my grandmother [Babus] made when I visited her in Pennsylvania long ago.

I used to get a tall container or their zoup - have them nuke it before I left the deli
The couple started it years after coming to America - husband worked as an engineer locally - - first they had a small deli -
The local Polish and German workers came in for lunch and after work for supper stuff
Friday nights they stopped to stock up for weekends
Big waiting lines in their deli
They had to lease mucho bigger spot down the block - used the smaller shop to sell Polish collectibles and all kinds of Polish stuff for the home
Hard working folks and a great addition to our city
Did I mention that I love their zoupas?

And lefties in this country would have gritted their teeth since the stamp contains a cross.

I remember how much you liked their soup. I used to make cabbage rolls, stuffed with meat and rice, braised in tomato sauce. Gołąbki - Golabki

My Babcia (Grandma) make the best Gołąbki ("Pigeons" in English ;) ) in the world (I guess every Pole would say the same thing aout their Grandmas) :P
I must say that Polish cuisine is very underrated all over the world, for majority of people it's only pierogi, kiełbasa and vodka.
But the cuisine in Poland differs in so many regions! It has it's "Polish spine" sometimes with a Jewish, Russian, Tartar, Lithuanian, Ukrainian twist.
Other then that, there are two Polish dishes many foreigners consider inedible - bigos and ogórki kiszone
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bigos
My Babcia "boils" ("cooks" is not a proper word here) bigos, for few days non-stop, usually! so the mushrooms give away all the taste.
