I look at it this way: If I were Israel and I knew the US had a security leak so serious that whatever the US knew, my enemies knew, I’d have taken out that ship too.
Accidentally, of course.
I agree. I also suspect they had good reason.
Just glad not all perished in the awful accident thanks to some heroic actions by some of the sailors on board.
True, considering the leak was at the very top. It’s too bad there wasn’t a way to pin it on the LBJ admin.
I AGREE!
It was amazing for those that did survive, and that the ship didn’t sink..., yes, indeed. God’s blessings were on those men who did survive.
But God’s blessings sure weren’t on the Johnson Administration for what they did. It’s a good thing that we got rid of Johnson and his administration when we did (in that he decided he couldn’t “hack the heat” and got out of there...).
Israel will play at diplomacy with enemies that understand only power until it is in Israel’s best interest to do otherwise.
Then it is best to be somewhere other than the spot where they “do otherwise”.
It is one of those Sovereign Nation thingees. Liberals really do not understand the concept.
Hopefully soon enough we get rid of O.
Amen to that one... :-)

[P.S. on that one, I think state laws put into effect, which require proof to be on the ballot, or else the name doesn’t go on, will be the best bet for getting rid of him, in the next election...]
So what!
How about the Assassination attempt against George H.W. Bush from none other then Saddam Hassan.

If 'the Israeli forces wanted NO survivors who could tell the story' there would have been NO SURVIVORS!
Did you read the piece?
The fact that the Israeli torpedo boats ran right up alongside the Liberty and poured everything they had into to her, even machine gunning the life boats, tells me that the Israeli forces wanted NO survivors who could tell the story.
Any yet there were survivors. How do you explain that? Israel wanted them obliterated, but then decided to let them limp away?
The entire incident is extremely confusing.
I’ve got to think about that, because I’m trying to make this (as closely as possible) to be International Crises of one government to another (although there are already exceptions in there, like the Marine Barracks bombing in Lebanon...).
I’ll read up on it and see if there is something there that makes it different than an assassination attempt that other Presidents have had, although, yes, I know it was put on by Saddam.
You’ll note that I don’t have the *actual assassination* of Kennedy in there — which was a *much more serious thing* than Bush’s. Kennedy was actually killed and there is speculation (although unproved) of international complicity (along with a whole host of other theories... :-)...).
But, thanks for sending it on, and I’m going to be taking another week to work on this thing with the leads that I’ve got.
To do that, they need to stir up more antisemitism first.
Bingo. Israel immediately apologized and gave millions of dollars in compensation to the wounded and to the family's of those killed. What more do they want them to do in 2009 for something that happened in 1967?
You said — The entire incident is extremely confusing.

Ummmm..., Johnson puts a U.S. spy ship in the wrong place, trying to spy surreptitiously, when Israel is trying to gain ground on the Syrians, with the U.S. sending the spy information to Syria, so they know what the Israelis are doing...
Seems to me that Johnson was “sticking his nose” in some place where it wasn’t helpful and he “got it shot off” — but that meant, unfortunately, that the servicemen that Johnson recklessly put in harm’s way got the brunt of Johnson’s stupid move...
