Former first lady Laura Bush said while her husband, George W. Bush, does not think its appropriate for a former president to criticize his successor, she understands why former Vice President Dick Cheney has.
Thats his right as a citizen of the U.S., and I think he also feels obligated and so I understand why he wants to speak out, Bush said in an interview with ABCs Good Morning America. On the other hand George feels like as a former president that he owes President Obama his silence on issues and that theres no reason to second guess any decisions he makes.
The former first lady also approves of Obamas Supreme Court nominee, Sonia Sotomayor, saying she sounds like a very interesting and good nominee.
As a woman Im proud that there might be another woman on the court, Bush said. So well see what happens, but I wish her well.
Asked about the infighting within the Republican Party, Bush said while she and former President Bush talk about it a lot, its probably not that bad.
I think its just a very typical political cycle, she said of the GOPs shrinking status. Its like creative tension within a party for people to talk about what it is they how they want to be represented

You’re right. Former presidents usually don’t do these things. Only DEMOCRAT former presidents, who have NO class, say those things.
Exactly, Mary. Why would anyone want President Bush to behave like a low-class Democrat ex-president?
Makes no sense.

She's right. The only reason it's getting that much press is because the MSM wants to create even MORE tension between conservative and moderate Republicans.
It has always been proper ettiquette for ex presidents not to speak out against seated presidents. Just like past board members don't go around bad mouthing current corporation board members. All that went out the window with the white trash Clinton and Carter.......
GW is following the example of his father who also observed the proper ettiquette and has always kept his mouth shut about Clinton, Carter and Obama........
The V.P.'s job while in office is to run interference for the Pres and basically try to take heat off his boss. Thats exactly what he's doing today......
He most certainly DID! You can be forgiven for not knowing it, though, because the MSM had a virtual blackout on anything positive the President said. They only talked about him or his policies in order to criticize him.
Or, "Bless her heart". ;o)
George W Bush and his whole family have WAY more intelligence and class than a lot of people who are posting on this thread...
Thanks for pointing it out to them, but I think it went right over their collective heads...
Not likely, unless the Republicans had remained in their Reagan mode. Too many Congressional Republicans got infected with Potomac Fever, and started liking the power to spend money WAY too much. Not to mention the fact that we wouldn't have Scalia, Thomas, Roberts or Alito sitting on the Supreme Court right now.
As do many other things, apparently...
George W. Bush is behaving exactly as a former President SHOULD behave, and others with class HAVE behaved.
Precisely!
and there's something wrong with that?
The less I see and hear from Bush the better IMO.
Listen, a gentleman's "class" and sportsmanship might be okay at a Yale "Skull and Bones" reunion but, IMO, it went out the window long ago in America (probably when Andrew Jackson squared off against John Quincy Adams...politics is exceeded only by war.
What about the outright hatred many so-called real conservatives heaped upon him? Hmmmm...?
Not only heaped -- past tense -- but still heap in the present, as this tread demonstrates. Indeed, as your own post demonstrates. Interesting choice of words, there -- "despised." Interesting you didn't choose "dislike" or "disagree with."
So-called real conservatives are known more by what they're against than what they are for; more by what and who they, ummm, despise than who they support. Basically, they refuse to support anyone who doesn't stare back at them while looking in a mirror.
George W. Bush is behaving exactly as a former President SHOULD behave, and others with class HAVE behaved.
Precisely!
I'm always amazed that folks who seem to find Reagan flawless find the same qualities he possessed in George W. Bush offensive.
They really are/were very much the same kind of person with the same kind of integrity and honorable behavior.
Waiting for the bashing of Reagan for being a quiet and respectful ex-President........
*crickets*
Why should she stay mum? Last I checked, the First Amendment still applied to all Americans equally. I also don't recall any constitutional phrase that limits free speech only to those who are in lock-step agreement with LowOil.
You see....you're one of the few Bush haters here that I actually remember, and I find those memories quite unpleasant.
So, you may choose to post to me again, but I shall choose not to reply.
Thanks for understanding.....
Blaming these men has become a ridiculous pastime in the ranks of the malcontents.
So, you actually believe that he could publicly duel with the press who detest him, lie about him and have unending hours of airtime and gallons of ink ?
If so, that’s extremely sophomoric thinking in the venomous BDS media scenario, and a completely NO WIN situation.
George Bush is a very savvy man with class, integrity, and decency.
If for no other reason, he will not cast stones against the unseemly Blamer (unless something unspeakably outrageous transpires) because of his high respect FOR THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENCY.
