Gov. Dave Freudenthal concedes that he could have stretched next year’s budget without $230 million in cuts, but that it would be a very short-sighted view to take.

Freudenthal addressed a packed room of Wyoming stock growers during their annual convention Friday at Cam-plex Energy Hall.

He started the speech with a rundown of agriculture bills that didn’t make it through the state Legislature in the last session, but then moved into his recent 10 percent budget cut for the next fiscal year.

“We are not the federal government,” Freudenthal said. “We don’t borrow money, we don’t print money and, by God, we’ll live within our means.”

I love the sentiment but I don’t believe that for a moment.

Freudenthal is probably the closest thing America has to an authentic conservative Dim.

Damn we need him in our party. Sounds conservative. Wish more of our guys believed strongly enough in what they SAY they believe in, that they’d start not only saying stuff like this, but actually DOING it too.

Well, you would be in trouble, but at least he wouldn’t make it worse and he’d probably make it better.

“...by God, we’ll live within our means.”

Rationality isn’t entirely dead; who’d have guessed.

Shouldn’t he have said, “and by law, we will live within our means.”?

Is my punctuation correct?

“You don’t get to live by yourself and have a Wal-Mart or a Nordstrom’s next door,” he said.

Amen.

Those of us who have made a conscious decision to live in the country know going in that we'll have to give up some conveniences. However, I would much rather live here than in town. The peace and tranquility more than makes up for not having a Wal*Mart just down the street.

Besides, near as I can figure, the nearest Nordstrom's is a three hour drive from here :)

Probably the best Democrat in the country.

I don't know about that when I consider how much my taxes have increased here in Wyoming. The state gov. is growing too. I wish he would do as he says ,but he is a democrat and Obama lover.
