Barack Obama's Massive Middle East Mea Culpa
Daily Telegraph (UK) ^ | June 4, '09 | Nile Gardiner

Posted on 06/06/2009 8:39:17 PM PDT by T.L.Sink

Obama gave a 56-minute speech before a Muslim audience in Cairo that drew a standing ovation. The speech was a continuation of the themes of atoning for America's past. Here are some of the key negative points in his speech that will backfire on both the president and the United States: Obama attacked the decision to go to war in Iraq as a "war of choice" without even mentioning the fact that Saddam was failing to comply with several Security Council resolutions. This was completely gratuitous, wrong and unnecessary. There are still more than 100,000 American troops fighting in Iraq and this message will only undernine morale. Obama did not address the scale of the Iranian threat, or Iran's support for terrorism, or UN sanctions against Iran. Obama made no mention of the fact that Iran is arming, funding and training terrorist groups in southern Iraq responsible for killing American and British troops. Obama drew a hugely controversial parallel between Jewish suffering in the Holocaust with the current plight of the Palestinians. [an outrageous example of moral equivalence!] Once again Obama brought up the Guantanamo/torture issue in front of an international audience - part of the ritual exercise in self-loathing that has become a hallmark of the Obama administration.

Gardiner also notes that NOT ONCE did Obama use the words "terrorist," "terrorism" or "Islamist." He also observes that "the president's address will only deepen the impression among both America's allies and enemies that Barack Obama doesn't have the stomach for a long war against Islamic terrorism." Putting aside the fact that in only about four months Obama and his Congress have taken us into socialism by nationalizing the automobile and banking industries, we must recognize that, like his Nigerian father, he has an undeniable propensity for the Third World and it's mentality of "victimization" and hatred for all things Western and capitalistic. It's not just hype or alarmist but that's where we're heading at a rapid pace. And, given Obama's love of massive illegal immigration in conjunction with his socialist domestic agenda, welcome to THIRD WORLD America!

God forbid we see anything like Sept. 11th again. I hope speeches like this don’t embolden our enemies.

Though Bush was reluctant to say we were fighting Islamic exremists, he did say a few times we were fighting “Islamo-fascism”. And it was a war on terror when Bush was president. Under Obama, it’s now just an overseas contingency operation. And we’re not fighting any particular ideology in this overseas contingency operation.

The same liberals who use language to obfuscate issues very clearly labeled the interrogations of Gitmo prisoners as “torture”, even though it’s hardly clear that these techniques met the legal definition of torture. Those who normally want precisely defined terms were only too happy to label anything the Bush administration did as “torture”.

They might play dumb, but they know full well how they manipulate the language to create a specific impression.

obama is an idiot. We had no choice, we had to go after radical Islam where-ever they were harboured or supported. They attacked us... Do you remember that little detail mr. obama? You remember the roughly 3000 dead Americans?

Good call liberal America, obama was a fine choice. :-/ We are already in significantly more danger now than we were even just 6 months ago. I can't wait to see what our security situation looks like by the end of obama's term.

The people of the US were wise enough to elect Presidents from Western European heritage for all of our nation’s history until now. The first non-European descent president is accelerating our descent into a failed African state. What a sorry state of affairs we are in.

Obama is simply a smooth talker who is still on the campaign trail because that's all he's good at.

Talk nice, walk with a swagger, pretty suit, look calm and relaxed in a debate...... He's a clueless babble-head who the self perceived elite are infatuated with. They love him not for his experience and qualifications, nor even what he has or is doing, but it's the "symbolism" of what he represents that they love. He will do no wrong, and they will support him even if unemployment raises past 10% months from now. Even if Iraq begins to unravel. Even if Iran gives us, the UN, and all the other things Obama says are important the bird. These folks will stand by Obama even when abortion raises, civil unrest increases, and freedoms go lost in a governmental power grab spanning the financial, health care, manufacturing and other industries.

His constant berating of America is simply an easy way for him to score overseas. Europeans, Middle Easterners, Russians, Chinese..... they all like to hear the sort of self loathing America hating speech he serves them up. Like all other speeches, he analyzes his audience and tailors the speech for them, even if what he does in “actions” is the complete antithesis of it. A good example is abortion. The most pro-abortion Congressman from any party he actually managed to portray himself as center mass and against abortion by declaring that he will try to “reduce them” while on the other hand he advocates abolishing any waiting period, parental consent, notification, late term abortion limitation etc. He talks fluff and so far all he's delivered is the typical far left agenda, straight down the far left party line without any exception. The unifier, the one who spoke of bipartisanship is probably one of the most divisive and least concerned with any opposing views of any. He has thus far rammed down the throat his agenda and all voices of concern or opposition are ignored or stepped on/squelched. He spoke of lowering taxes, but his people are already at work trying to figure out how to increase them with Cap and Trade, increases in inheritance, gas, soda, VAT, and Internet sales taxes........ he's a walking talking contradiction where he tells people what they want to hear, from Catholics to Muslims, from soldiers to code pink, they all get served nice speeches, and then he does what he wants.

This speech wasn't intended for you, it was intended for his Arab and Muslim audience at the time, and you have to realize, someone like Obama who essentially patronizes everyone will have a huge variance in what he says to whom and when. Obama's nickname should be "shifty."

" Like all other speeches, he analyzes his audience and tailors the speech for them"

I'm not the first to say this, nor will I be the last:
Zero for brains will keep playing to his audience until our allies no longer trust us and our enemies believe they can overtake us. That's when the sh!t will really hit the fan in the U.S. They will test us and with this nut job at the helm...who knows what result we'll get in the aftermath....

He’s laying the groundwork for the next attack.

I’m thinking it will be in DC. I’m hoping it doesn’t destroy any of the Smithsonian or any of the Museums, the White House or Congress.

But I believe it’s coming . . . but that won’t stop me from being in DC over the fourth of July or in September. I just wish no one had screwed up with the 2nd Amendment and we were all able to carry concealed everywhere in the USofA.

And if North Korea attacks Alaska . . . If 0bama doesn’t act, Governor Palin will.

Why do I get this picture of 0bama in a fetal position crying for his Mama when I think of a terrorist attack on DC?

Obama Embraces a New Colonialism

Obama’s Cairo speech ignored proper foundations for relating to Muslim people. He failed to separate Muslim religious faith from current repressive governments using Islamic interpretations. He blamed colonialists outnumbered 1,000 to 5,000 to one for Muslim repression when they merely leveraged existing oligarchies. They formed cabals involving indigenous leadership to marginalize opponents and mutually benefit from exploitation.

Obama praised Islam’s civilizing contributions, without noting its unalloyed decent into violence and military conquest. About 1100 AD Hassan bin Sabah enlightened Islamist societies to terrorism as foundational statecraft for political prosperity. Philosophical and religious lawyers retained their lives supporting dictators by backwards engineering Koran passages into useful totalitarian heterodoxies. Concurrently, foundational expositions, including Jews, Christians and Muslims as ‘People of the Book”, became hazardous positions. Concurrently, Saladin’s Sufism stressing individual relationship with God, and exalting individualism within society became marginalized. Concurrently, extraordinary Arab achievements in mathematics, philosophy, science, and medicine submerged within authoritarian and feral societies. Omar Khayyam, Ibn al-Haytham, and Abu Ali al-Hussain Ibn Sina had no successors for uncompromising, independent thought.

Obama’s ingratiating approach to current Islamic leadership contravenes Eleanor Roosevelt’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This resolution, contradicting colonialist hegemony, preceded a cascade for willing and reluctant emergence of over 100 countries. People unwrapped the gift of independence expecting promised new freedoms, only to discover pre-colonial norms of crushing civil wars, murderous political intrigues, and pandemics of disease and starvation. Ruling elites from ascendant tribes/chiefdoms again sought totalitarian power. Obama extends friendship to current Islamic victors.

I agree with all you said. I know it’s easy to say, but I’m afraid we’ve become PC “soft” in our war against an enemy that is opposed to all the best values of Western civilization and literally wants to exterminate us infidels in the name of jihad. Of course, all Muslims don’t feel this way. But it only took a handfull of their many fanatics to bomb the first World Trade Center building, kill our troops in Somalia, murder Americans in Egypt and kill others on the U.S.S. Cole. (Not to mention the second attack on the World Trade Center which killed another 3,000.) And the conflict continues. I think it’s potentially tragic that the USA is headed by Obama, who has drastically slashed the defense budget in favor of the failed social welfare programs of LBJ.

Absolutely right! I’m so tired of the liberals and Obama fellow travellers raising the question of what WE may have done wrong in the past that resulted in this attack on us. It’s even worse than the old liberal “blame America first” routine. Judeo-Christian Western civilization is being ferociously attacked in a war to the death by its ancient, historic enemy — militant Islam! But in this age of moral equivalence, multiculturalism, PC thought, and moral relativity we may not fully grasp the truth until it’s too late!

I think you’ve got a point. If we elected an intelligent American black like Thomas Sowell, who knows American history well, and is very intelligent and socially perceptive, we’d be much better off than with a Third World socialist like Obama. Right now, America is being destroyed by Balkanization. Look at the daily news. We hear about white females, white males, blacks, Hispanics, old, young, rich, poor, middle class, etc., etc. We hear nothing but POLLS! It’s, quite literally, the fragmentation of America into a mass of conflicting ethnic, racial, and socio-economic groups. And there’s no end in sight. So far, the American ideal of a single person rooted in our historic values and constitutional freedoms is just another mythological propaganda figure.

I think much of the reputed contributions of Islam to the arts and sciences were, in historical fact, absorbed from the West. For example, after Constantinople fell in 1453 and the Arabs invaded the Byzantine (East Roman) Empire they simply absorbed some of the great artistic, scientific, and cultural marvels of that civilization. But the fact remains that the motive force of the aggressive and ruthless campaigns of Islamic expansion was religious - to convert (or enslave or kill) the infidel. This was first examined and explained in detail by Edward Gibbon in the last volume of his “Decline and Fall...”

Exactly. It’s now pretty obvious that Obama is prepared to let Iran develope it’s nuclear arsenal with impunity. He as much as said that in some speeches. IMHO, our only hope in that regard is Israel - at least they’re not willing to let apocalyptic dark age fanatics destroy them and threaten and destabilize the region and even threaten the West. And - just as bad, supply rogue states with atomic weaponry.

I often mention in letters that the first and most popular use of any religion or philosophy by fallen man is appropiation to feed a universal human addiction to power as insidious as any to drugs, alcohol or pornagraphy. In this country national socialism produced the “Miracle in Phiolidelpia” and the Shakers, and in Europe produced the expected outcome of the Nazis. I believe man caused global warming is the latest devise for this country.

Obama's racial or ethnic heritage has nothing to do with this. I can think of several black candidates, or candidates of other than European heritage who would make fine Presidents.

The key is their political leanings. If they're statists, it doesn't matter where their families originated, be it Europe, Scandinavia, Africa, or Asia, they won't be strong on national security, because they'll have the elitist attitude that we shouldn't be triumphalist, or nationalistic, but rather global in our governance.

You are so right. Now that is worth knowing, because the League of Arab States website lists them among the individuals who they tout as making extraordinary achievements. I did know Hassan bin Sabah was Persian, but I did not question the others origin. Here is a link to the League of Arab States where they cover those individuals.

http://www.arableagueonline.org/las/english/level2_en.jsp?level_id=48

If you then go to the page where they list their members, Iran is not among them. Interesting contradiction.

Very interesting. Thanks. You may have read his essay but, if you havn’t, check out “When Islam Breaks Down,” by Theodore Dalrymple. I posted it on FR a long time ago. He’s lived in several Islamic societies and speaks from first-hand experience. Islam, inherent in its very nature, fosters intolerance. Even those who survived the wars of conquest were forced to live in a state of Dhimmitude wherein non-Islamists were less than third-class citizens - forced to pay tribute, excluded from any influence, etc. To me, the most remarkable thing is how little it’s changed over the centuries. To cite one example, you can only find state-sanctioned slavery today in Islamic nations like Mauritania, Sudan, etc. You mentioned Persia (Iran). Even long before Mohammed and Islam, Persia (despite its achievements) was a savage and semi-barbarous nation. One need only read Herodotus and other Greeks to learn this. In fact, the struggle of the ancient Greeks against Persian despotism is something of a model for today’s struggle of Western civilization against Islam. When Persia was forced into Islam there were no underlying humanizing forces in Persian culture to mollify the savagery of that religion of conquest and jihad. In the West, however, there was a long and complex interaction between Judeo-Christian and Greco-Roman religious and cultural values that, in the end, produced Western civilization. Of course, with more than a billion Muslims one can find exceptions to everything. But the point is, they are the exceptions. By the way, another great writer and student of Islam is Bernard Lewis. Sorry for the too long discourse! Best,
