Obama's Trouble With Independent Voters
Washington Whispers at U.S. News & World Report ^ | June 5, 2009 | Paul Bedard

Pollster John Zogby regularly updates our Obamameter. Each week, Zogby uses his polling, expert analysis, and interaction with major players to come up with a rating of between 1 and 100. Unlike his polls, the Obamameter is his judgment on the performance of the president once multiple factors are considered. In this week's Obamameter, Zogby says that the president was slowed by former Vice President Dick Cheney's rap on Guantánamo Bay policies and the right's concerns about Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor. Also, he's facing troubles winning over independents.

"It was just a fair to middling week for Obama. Cheney got more traction than anticipated for his criticisms of Obama on handling terror suspects. Sonia Sotomayor remains a good long-term choice politically, but Newt Gingrich and Rush Limbaugh were able to define her in negative ways that might, for now, appeal to white, working-class voters. Our latest poll shows 45 percent of independents giving Obama a positive job performance, so he has some work to do with them."

This week's rating: 76

Last Week's Rating: 80

John Zogby is president and CEO of Zogby International, a public opinion, research, and business solutions firm with experience working in more than 70 countries. Founded and led by Zogby since 1984, Zogby International specializes in telephone, Internet, and face-to-face survey research and analysis for corporate, political, nonprofit, and governmental clients. The firm is headquartered in Utica, N.Y. John Zogby also is the author of The Way We'll Be: The Zogby Report on the Transformation of the American Dream (Random House).

What was it that another politician from Illinois said about fooling the people?

His troubles are that he is an abject marxist ideolog with deep and troubling ties to Islam, who is constantly and willfully changing his story and policy to fit whatever group happens to be on the "watch" list at a particular time.

And people are figuring it out and getting past the facny suit and so-called "historical " nature of his election. A stuffed shirt is a stuffed shirt no matter what the pigment of the skin.

I’m one of ‘em...filled out the Zogby poll and it was quite long...many questions about Obamanation, Mililant Michelle and their socialist agenda which is the DNC’s mandate also. I believe many Americans are beginning to question the constant hate America campaign. The spin by the MSM daily is also involved. If you want to take part in the Zogby polls online, go to his site and let them know. You will be emailed when the polls take place.

If I live long enough thru the worst-thuggish-quasi-presidency ever, I will pop the champagne corks when this despicable human being is hated by the voters as much as he hates this country he’s SUPPOSED to govern.

So if this week’s rating is 76 and the independent voters ratings as part of that mix is 45, does that mean Republicans favor him 83% and Democrats 100%?

It is a real mistake to concentrate the primary ideological attack on Barack Obama. Barack Obama is a front end snakeoil salesman, and an astutely selected one, for much more sinister forces.

Barack Obama is a product of the Council on Foreign Relations, and the shadow government which fronts the politicians. That is why for instance George W Bush does not now, nor has in the past, clarify and attack the character of the Left, or defend conservatism. That is why John McCain was selected to be the red herring opposition to Barack Obama. That is why Sarah Palin is shut down by the media.

The Republicans themselves are a planned token opposition, totally incapable of defining conservatism. How obvious is it? Conservatism is the personal responsibility for your own decisions. That is how the United States rose above the rest of the world. How difficult is it to say that? Yet "they" do not.

The Council on Foreign Relations is the most arrogant set of elitists on the planet. And have made the United States government the phoniest, most power hungry set of jerks in the developed world. Subsequent to Ronald Reagan the suite of socioeconomic decisions made by the United States government in the name of the global economy has been devastating to its own integrity. Cultivated by The Council on Foreign Relations.

Think about Rahm Emmanuel, Charles Shumer, Barbara Boxer, Nancy Pelosi, Al Franken etc. These are really really ugly people. There is not one honest soul among them. The US government could be dismantled to 60% of its current authority and revenues and we would all be better off, but is that about to happen with that bunch?

Barack Obama plays to politics exactly like Brad Pitt plays to Hollywood. Does anyone think that Pitt writes the script, or finances the appearances?

If the Left is not identified for what it is, surrounded, and confronted with the ideology of genuine personal responsibility, we who know are only spitting in the wind.

Please explain Vice President Dick Cheney then. Where does he fit in your theory?

hard to argue with any of this. it is obvious to me that the 2004 was a totally successful media (read fortune 100) managed election. obama had no power-base of his own, thus was obviously protected and supported by others.

How obvious is it? Conservatism is the personal responsibility for your own decisions.

That deserves to be repeated often, in bold. More than a few think they are conservative because of their views on specific issues, rather than a core sense of values. In bold:

How obvious is it? Conservatism is the personal responsibility for your own decisions.

Is Dick Cheney a member of the CFR?

Would be a real surprise, but then again I teach, and thus belong to, an educational institution run by exasperatingly phony educators. I just ignore them, or redirect them when they cross the line (which is regularly).

But in any case Dick Cheney is one of the heroes.
