Barack and Michelle Obama decline dinner with the Sarkozys
The Times ^ | 6/5/2009 | Charles Bremner in Paris

Posted on 06/04/2009 10:00:19 PM PDT by bruinbirdman

The Obamas turn up in Paris this evening, but have declined a dinner invitation from the couple next door: the Sarkozys.

President Obama’s reluctance to spend more than minimum time with the French leader on his visit for the D-Day anniversary has come as an embarrassment to the Elysée Palace.

America’s First Family will not be dining with President Sarkozy and his wife, Carla Bruni, even though they are staying at the residence of the US Ambassador, yards from the Elysée apartments where the Sarkozys spend their weekends.

Mr Sarkozy’s staff were trying yesterday to arrange another private moment between the couples. Mr Obama is due to fly back to Washington tomorrow night or on Sunday.

Mr Sarkozy’s dream date would be dinner somewhere spectacular such as the Jules Verne, an Alain Ducasse restaurant on the Eiffel Tower. The Obamas were reported on French celebrity websites to be planning a meal there.

A glamorous joint outing might be compared with the ones that President de Gaulle undertook with John and Jackie Kennedy in 1961. On that trip, Mrs Kennedy was such a hit that JFK presented himself as “the man who accompanied Jackie Kennedy to Paris”.

Failure to socialise with the Obamas will add to mockery that has greeted Mr Sarkozy’s attempts to stage the 65th anniversary of D-Day as a “Barack and Sarko show”. The media and Opposition have mocked Mr Sarkozy over Mr Obama’s coolness towards him, which is only partly due to his handling of the Normandy commemoration.

Mr Sarkozy has been pilloried in France for his failure to invite the Queen to the events. “The palace is fearing a snub,” Le Parisien newspaper said yesterday after the news emerged of the Obamas’ plans to keep themselves to themselves.

Yesterday the popular comedian Nicolas Canteloup did an

There’s only room for one “French” President. Obambi is clearly “out-frenching” Sarkozy, both in foreign policy and in arrogance.

Revealing? Or devastating! He can’t even speak Austrian!

Coupled with his ruinously expensive public spending projects, he truly is becoming our Emperor Nero.

History repeating.

Reagan = Augustus

GHWB = Tiberius

Clinton = Caligula

GWB = Claudius

Obambi = Nero

"It was rotten of President Sarkozy to exclude an invitation to Queen Elizabeth!"

The 65th D-Day observation was not scheduled as a formal international event, like the 50th and 60th.

TOTUS made it one with his last minute (maybe two week) notice that he was coming on his way back from the middle east. That would have been fine until PM Brown decided he wanted to come.

You just don't issue invitations to heads of state (The Queen) unless you know they can say yes. With time running out, the invitation was given to The Prince who could make it.

Look, Sarkozy and Merkel and most of EU are not happy at all with Osama dropping in like a peasant and making populist appearances all over the Continent.

I don’t understand that kind of crap. Why is it that people,men and women,have to spend thousands of dollars on shoes and clothes? Insecurity? Or maybe to prove to the world they are better than most people. Especially those who are head of states. So many so called leaders of countries all over the world living the high life and their people suffer in so many different ways. And Obama was suppose to be all about the people,there again he proves himself a liar.

Maybe they don’t have appropriate table manners and are waiting until their Emily Post lessons are complete so as not to embarass themselves anymore than they have. </sarc>

Wow. Priceless. Simply priceless. Disturbing is the first thought that comes to my mind.

How unsettling, such utter raw emotion, antagonism, belligerence as ugly, emotionally dissonant as anything to emerge from the 60's anti-white establishment I have ever seen. I suppose having to sit among all those white folk must have been too much.

I,too , am a big Julia Child fan. I use her books all the time. Vol I and II.

My own personal favorites in the top category for a special occasion and superb dinner are

l’AMBROISIE in the historic Place des Vosges

l’ARPEGE

I am putting together a list of Paris restaurants, and will post them to the Ping List soon.

To make matters worse, what does The COMMUNE Organizer do? He goes to Germany before D-day for no other reason than rub Buchenwald in Merkel's face. No state dinner, no diplomatic business, no invite.

This after saying to his comrades in faith and dictatorship that The Holocaust is the same as the Palestinian emigration from Israel.

This guy is a Black Liberation theologist who hates western civilization.
