N. Korea says trial of two U.S. journalists will begin 3 p.m.

SEOUL, June 4 (Yonhap) -- North Korea's highest court will begin trial of two U.S. journalists at 3 p.m., the official Korean Central News Agency said Thursday.

"The Central Court of the DPRK will start a trial of American journalists Laura Ling and Seung-eun Lee from 3 p.m. Thursday on the basis of the indictment already brought against them," the one-sentence report said.

The female reporters were detained on the border with China on March 17. North Korea accused them of illegally entering the country and committing unspecified hostile acts.

“Where is Al Goron? Did he pack his bag, ready to go to Pyongyang and grovel? “

Never mind Al, where’s the big guns?

Where’s Oprah? (and all the other talk show hosts of shows that Lisa Ling has been on?)

My guess?

They will be given the maximum sentence.

There is already a 70-80% chance they were already raped by North Korean guards who held them in the area until they were transferred to Pyongyang and held there separately, by The Party.

They could have already been tortured or threatened with torture and wrote their confessions. We shall see.

At any rate, Kim Jong il runs the show, and whatever happens to them will NOT be the action of the Central Pyongyang Court, but will have the official imprimatur stamp by The Dear General himself--in fact the verdict has already been well decided and "chopped" (all that waits is either official delivery or statement to the press of the verdict") and then their waiting for the US response which they hope will come in the form of some subterranean Western Kowtow visit to the DPRK by a Gore or a Carter or a Richardson to spring them, bearing appropriate quid pro quo US concessions; with these two girls, Kim knows he as a) a could of aces in his hands in the form of two liberal naive American kids out of liberal J school; and b) a liberal American president who is a push over and who will probably concede anything to the DPRK in order to get them back, even if it puts US troops and allies in risk in Tokyo and Seoul.

At any rate, one expects these two will indeed have a very tough time, they could get sent to Yodok at any moment--if they are lucky they will get pressed into international announcers for the international service of Radio Pyongyang in English, or as teachers at Amnokggang Miltary College or for the DPRK's intelligence corps. Kim Jong-il is playing a game with these two; his intent (to paraphrase another Freepers) is to "rattle Obama's cage to see if he gets the squirts."

Yes, they will be given stiff sentence, 10 years or more in prison for espionage, making their family and associates’ hair stand up in shock. Alleged espionage equipments will be all on display. Then they wait what goodies Santa Claus from U.S. would deliver. Only magnanimous and benevolent Dear General can pardon them(LOL again.)
Classic NK blackmail scheme.

My guess is they will get it over quickly, because they need to shock the USA and ramp up their bag of goodies for the horsetrading which is about to start. They might have a decision tonight, or maybe one more "session".

At any rate, the DPRK prosecutor (police/party) will have all of these two women's seized equipment laid out on a table (some of it made up/planted perhaps), and labled in Korean and English, and this will be shown on Pyongyang TV. If they move quickly they should have footage of it on their 5 p.m. news particularly later at 7 p.m. if they have a news segment tonight, anywhere form 1 to 4 hours from now. I am posting at 4:00 p.m. local Asia on Thursday.

PS Of course I wish for their freedom, but on the other hand, have any Freepers seen this Ling's video reporting on the Al Gore Channel? Pretty liberal.

One hopes she would come out of the Peoples' Paradise virulently despising to the core COMMUNISM and stating how her "progressive" journalist and political co-horts in the USA have all been taken for a ride by Socialism and Communism, which is after all horrendous when actually viewed face to face. I also wonder what groups like Democracy Now, MoveOn.Org, International A.N.S.W.E.R. and other pro-North Korean groups have to say about this trial, and particularly if she came out really recanting Bolshevism and exposing first hand how evil it truly is and particularly criticising Obama's weakness as inviting North Korean self-confident, bold provocations over the last four months in the first place (including probably her seizure). They would drop her like a hot potato at a finger snap.

Ya know this may be just the ticket.
There are a whole passel of American “journalists” I wouldn’t mind sending to N.Korea for good.

I concur. The sentences will be very still and will have the objective of..

1. Firming things up a bit more b4 the impending succession struggle

2. Testing Obama

3. Extracting money, prestige, concessions

They might later pardon them, making huge hay of the shame they were able to inflict, and their tender mercy....
