Israelis growing increasingly anxious about Obama policies

JERUSALEM — Sirens blared across Israel on Tuesday as the nation carried out its biggest-ever "doomsday" drill meant to simulate a catastrophic attack. The faux fears, however, were overshadowed by deepening anxiety in Jerusalem that Israel is heading for an unavoidable political showdown with President Barack Obama over the center-right government's refusal to stop building Jewish homes in the predominantly Palestinian West Bank. Yedioth Ahronoth, Israel's largest daily newspaper, carried a front-page story Tuesday bluntly titled: "The American Threat." Its biggest competitor, Maariv, carried a bold headline: "Pressure." The building apprehension comes as Obama is preparing to make a direct appeal to the Islamic world in Cairo on Thursday that's widely seen as a chance for the U.S. to launch a new, more cooperative era with Arab nations in the Middle East. Central to the success of Obama's attempts to reshape America's image in the region will be a shift in U.S. policy toward Israel.

Suppose Iran nukes an Israeli target. Israel retaliates with several nukes. The rest of the Arab world decides it is time to settle with Israel once and for all...If the Samson option is not used, Israel might be overrun.

That's right. If Israel is hit with a debilitating nuclear or wmd attack, the militarys of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Syria and probably Lebanon and Jordan would be destroyed. Perhaps Israel would wait for signs of mobilization, but not necessarily, since a successful attack would obviously represent a threat to Israel's nuclear capability.

No argument here BUT do some history. Jews have always been reactive to aggression rather than proactive. From the 1967 War on through, it was Israel which was attacked, never being the attacker. It is a Jewish trait, it seems, to take the first punch rather than to deliver it.

You must be right, after all they unilaterally declared independence in 1948 when the US wouldn't support it, went to war in 1958, preempted in 1967, and wanted to preempt in 1973 but were dissuaded by the US. That unwillingness to defend themselves is also illustrated by their attacks on the Iraqi and Syrian reactors. Certainly you're right.

As to Jews electing Obama, he won by nearly 10 million votes, with about 2.5 million Jews voting. The math doesn't work.

McCain did win the white vote, and the over 65 vote. The best thing conservatives can do is to tell non white and under 65 voters how stupid they are. And to do it often. Being a minority party is fun!

Other issues? How can that be, Jew vote for Israel's welfare after all, not Americas. Dual loyalty, you know.

For 7 years of the Bush administration we heard about the Jews running foreign policy, now they're stupidly following Obama. I can't imagine why Jews don't flock to the right.

Were you ever pro Israel? Or have you always been neutral? Are you bothered about Muslims taking over Europe or is that not any of your business?My opinions about Israel have varied over the years. It will not be resolved until one side conquers the other. I would prefer it be Israel, because they are civilized, but they don't seem concerned enough themselves to stop the "peace process" charade and to annihilate their enemy. Until they make up their minds to destroy their enemy, I am not interested in their tedious problems. I just want it over with. As far as Europe goes, they are choosing their own fate. Their feminist women refuse to procreate, they consciously imported millions of Muslims. It's very bothersome, but they seem intent on cultural suicide, as do our own liberal fascists here in the US.
