JERUSALEM — Sirens blared across Israel on Tuesday as the nation carried out its biggest-ever "doomsday" drill meant to simulate a catastrophic attack. The faux fears, however, were overshadowed by deepening anxiety in Jerusalem that Israel is heading for an unavoidable political showdown with President Barack Obama over the center-right government's refusal to stop building Jewish homes in the predominantly Palestinian West Bank. Yedioth Ahronoth, Israel's largest daily newspaper, carried a front-page story Tuesday bluntly titled: "The American Threat." Its biggest competitor, Maariv, carried a bold headline: "Pressure." The building apprehension comes as Obama is preparing to make a direct appeal to the Islamic world in Cairo on Thursday that's widely seen as a chance for the U.S. to launch a new, more cooperative era with Arab nations in the Middle East. Central to the success of Obama's attempts to reshape America's image in the region will be a shift in U.S. policy toward Israel.

Suppose Iran nukes an Israeli target. Israel retaliates with several nukes. The rest of the Arab world decides it is time to settle with Israel once and for all. Obama decides to forsake Israel (a little hope and change there) and warns it against further use of nuclear weapons. The Arabs invade Israel and it is cast into a life and death struggle. If the Samson option is not used, Israel might be overrun. There is your hope and change.
I do not believe that Israel would be overrun and in the event, I do not believe they would withhold the Samson option. I also am ignoring divine intervention in this scenario. The one assumption here that I think is on the firmest ground is Obama’s stab in the back.

I didn't mean Israel's destruction, I meant how can Jews hate Israel? I don't like liberals but I certainly wouldn't want them or America destroyed (although liberals leaving the country is a nice vision). Surely, Jews read the Torah? And, even if they don't Israeli's are Jewish - they are their own people!

I choose neutrality on Israel. The territorial claims are not clear to me. I reject the premise that anyone is “fighting for me”. That is too conveniently used as an excuse for warmongering. People fight for their own self-interest, if they have any idea why they are fighting at all.
Were you ever pro Israel? Or have you always been neutral? Are you bothered about Muslims taking over Europe or is that not any of your business?
Yes, faithful ones are, but there are a lot of Labor Party-loving liberal Israelis who really believe, much the same way that many German Jews did in the 1930s, you can achieve peace with those who hate you.

No argument here BUT do some history. Jews have always been reactive to aggression rather than proactive. From the 1967 War on through, it was Israel which was attacked, never being the attacker. It is a Jewish trait, it seems, to take the first punch rather than to deliver it.
Israel can obliterate Iranian nuclear program. But they will have to use ground penetrating nukes. Maybe this is the best way out

I was trying to understand the above comment - NOT saying Jews wanted the destruction of Israel....I got confused on what the blogger was saying and I was trying to get clear what they were saying, that’s all.

That's right. If Israel is hit with a debilitating nuclear or wmd attack, the militarys of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Syria and probably Lebanon and Jordan would be destroyed. Perhaps Israel would wait for signs of mobilization, but not necessarily, since a successful attack would obviously represent a threat to Israel's nuclear capability.
