Brazilian authorities reportedly delayed an Air France flight from Buenos Aires to Paris after the airline received a bomb threat over the phone, just days before the mysterious crash of Flight 447 over the Atlantic Ocean.
According to a Brazilian news report, police and airport officials spent 90 minutes inspecting the threatened plane for explosives on the evening of May 27 at Buenos Aires' Ezeiza Airport, but found nothing.
During the search, passengers were not evacuated from the jet and later safely arrived at their destination in Paris.
On Tuesday, Brazil's defense minister said an airplane seat, a fuel slick and pieces of white debris scattered over three miles of open ocean marked the site in the mid-Atlantic where Air France Flight 447 plunged to its doom.
Brazilian military pilots spotted the wreckage, sad reminders bobbing on waves, in the ocean 400 miles northeast of these islands off Brazil's coast. The plane carrying 228 people vanished Sunday about four hours into its flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris.
"I can confirm that the five kilometers of debris are those of the Air France plane," Defense Minister Nelson Jobim told reporters at a hushed news conference in Rio. He said no bodies had been found and there was no sign of life.
The effort to recover the debris and locate the all-important black box recorders, which emit signals for only 30 days, is expected to be exceedingly challenging.
"We are in a race against the clock in extremely difficult weather conditions and in a zone where depths reach up to 7,000 meters (22,966 feet)," French Prime Minister Francois Fillon told lawmakers in parliament Tuesday.
Brazilian military pilots first spotted the floating debris early Tuesday in two areas about 35 miles (60 kilometers) apart

Brazil is home to one of the largest Arab populations outside the Middle East, with most living in Sao Paulo and in Foz do Iguacu, a hotbed of smuggling and contraband in the so-called Tri-Border region near Argentina and Paraguay.

Smoke and mirrors, issue disgronificator. We ain’t got no stinking issues with Arabs now do we.
“...just days before the mysterious crash of Flight 447...”
A proclamation of responsibility should come forth soon if this is an act of terror, shouldn’t it?
Hey, our media has said it was lightning. Are you questioning Our Media?
True- the whole point of terror is, after all, to terrorize. If there’s no message that comes with it, if we left to wonder if it’s a lightning strike or mechanical failure or something, then it’s a wasted attack, from a terrorist’s perspective.
Move along folks, move along. Nothing to see here.

There is plenty of terror in the unknown. I don’t necessarily agree with the necessity of an announcement. In todays world, very few airplanes just fall out of the sky in pieces. Complete electrical failure is possible, but extremely rare.
Pilots do everything they can to avoid destructive thunderstorms. Bombs are another issue entirely, and that would make two Western hemisphere incidents in two days if proved true, and once proven true should result in something more than the usual pap and pablum.

Where is he being held ... I’ll mail the police a chain saw to help with the interrogation.
According to the article, an automatic message was sent out indicating an electrical failure and loss of cabin pressure. Can such a message be sent out if a plane suddenly explodes? Just wondering about the reactive systems on board.
an automatic message was sent out indicating an electrical failure
Can such a message be sent out if a plane suddenly explodes?
I would certainly wonder how the message got out if there was complete electrical failure. An explosion that damaged the aircraft to the point it would not be airworthy could be a time related factor. IOW it took out some electrical, caused a cabin pressure loss and seconds, or minutes later cumulative damage that resulted in catastrophic in flight disintegration.
Didn’t Zero say the US was the largest muslim country in the world?
Waterboarding might work, but we can’t use that anymore. Where are you VP Chaney now that we need you?

There are some here who seem to think terrorists like to terrorize people without terrorizing them. Odd, isnt’ it?
Nice, deceptive headline. Makes it sound like a bomb threat was called in on this flight.
Which might indicate that his plane didn't come down in one piece. She broke up while in the air.
Buenos Aires is in Argentina. Did the plane make a stop in Brazil?.............
Would the air pressure fluctuations of a severe storm trigger a pressure-rigged bomb?
That is what I thought too. Buenos Aires is in Argintina. Why would Brazil stop the departure? I think the reporter might have his facts wrong?
