And so what if GM hits the ash heap of history (other than the sell off of its marques to fire sale patrons, who will in all likelihood carry forth the old GM warranties so that public goodwill towards the marques they have purchased will survive). Where are the dozens of other mighty marques of the early 20th century?

Saturn is an odd case, and probably deserves to live on as a distinct entity. I could see, say, Kia buying it. It never had a place in the traditional GM car pecking order. At one point, well-used Saturns had the dubious honor of the most-stolen cars in the USA because they sold so well.
