A new poll of the potential 2012 GOP primary field from CNN/Opinion Research Corp. shows a log jam of three candidates at the top. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, and current Alaska Governor Sarah Palin are in a statistical dead heat according to the survey conducted May 14-17 with a 4.5% margin of error:

Huckabee 22 Palin 21 Romney 21 Gingrich 13 Jeb Bush 6 Someone Else 10

In related news, Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, who announced today he would not be seeking a third term, dodged questions today about running in 2012 while adding that he believes the GOP needs "new ideas and new faces."

What I like about the poll is that no one will get a big head but Romney, Huckabee, and Palin do have some indication there is support for what they are saying now.

As for Sarah Palin she has been out of the national spotlight for 6 months and juxtaposed against TV hounds Huckabee (own show)and Romney(frequent guest on cable news and right-wing talk radio) her results are great.

"Yeah she needs to go to the Senate just like Reagan and GWB did.

Reagan was from the most populated state in the union and Bush from the second most populated state. Reagan was on the national political scene from over 20 years when he was elected in addition to being nationally as an actor.

Bush, while also being elected twice as Governor in a huge state, enjoyed his father's name recognition. It helps when your old man was associated with one of the most popular Presidents in American history.

Comparing Palin to Reagan or Bush is really apples & oranges.

Actually, Steele and Palin have a lot of respect for each other. When he introduced her in Indiana he said that when it boiled down to Pawlenty and Palin, he was hoping the choice would be Palin.

Palin spent a considerable chunk of her political captal on Steele with a strong statement of support for him when GOP insiders were calling for his head on a pike.

When I hear Sanford talk, my eyes glaze over and I fall asleep.

When I hear Huck or Mitt talk, I think “Liar!” and change the channel.

So there.

I will be voting for a halfway decent candidate - hopefully there will be one on the ballot - who actually has a chance of winning. Anybody is better than the Marxist tool we have in there now.

Sorry, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

We are doomed if we EVER run these losers again. Haven't we learned our lesson yet?

Palin is the only exception, since she never ran for POTUS before. She stands a decent chance of getting the nomination.

OK Bumblegunner, Define “cult.”

It is fitting that you should seek wisdom from me.

However, the age in which we live requires that I receive a donative from seekers.

Shall I send you a link to my PayPal account?

I must tell you that the wisdom you seek is written in the Bible for all to see.

But I'll still take money.

I have no problem with Romney’s religion. IMO, anyone who calls the LDS religion a “cult” is a moron. Peeople who spend too much time bashing someone’s else’s religion are living in a glass house. God will sort us all out in the end.

I just don’t like the way his Romney’s surrogates play politics. His people knifed Fred Thompson in the back, and they got a bunch of themselves hired by McCain and kneecapped Palin from inside the campaign.

So Mccain and his folks have nothing to do with Palin’s troubles?

we all want a Conservative in the White House
Yet, you don't want Sarah to run. She has more experience then all of them. One can draw a conclusion here.

A cult is defined by a pretty strict set of behaviors and strictures.

Mormonism happens to meet many of those defining attributes.
so do Jehovah’s Witnesses, and that doesn't mean that I am ignorant about them, either.
