That makes sense to me. Obama already has an established record of telling his relatives what to say to the press, or of putting them under house arrest so they can’t undermine his stories.

His Kenyan step-grandmother told an interviewer a couple of years ago that the family was Muslim. Then last fall, when Obama was downplaying any Muslim connections, she told reporters that she and the rest of the family were all Christians. Now this spring we heard that she was going on pilgrimage this year to Mecca.

So no doubt his uncle would tell reporters anything about his war experience that Obama instructed him to. Maybe he even guessed what might happen to him if he didn’t agree.

I only provided the link to reference the interaction between Sweetness and Light and the group that runs the 89th Division site.

This is very strange. Payne is referred to as both Charles T. and Charles W. in various articles about him. If his name is Charles W., it makes no sense. Why would his uncle verify a story if it was not true? Here's a fairly detailed account by the uncle, Obama's great-uncle recalls liberating Nazi camp

I'm curious if you've seen his full from actual census records.

There is an apparent discrepency between Beckwith's research findings and the latest Telegraph story about the "real" Obama great-uncle Charles Payne, which appeared on the Telegraph web site May 29. (See also post # 49 by Tammy8 on this thread.)

While Uncle Charlie claims to the Telegraph Washington reporter that O's forthcoming visit to Buchenwald has nothing to do with him and everything to do with politics, it seems like the elderly man is insisting that he indeed was in the US Army and helped liberate Ohrdruf in 1945.

Would appreciate some resolution of this factual issue. Obviously, it's impossible for both to be correct on this important point.

If I remember correctly this is the same uncle that was supposed to have hid in the attic for several years because of his WWII experiences, the same one oddly enough that was listed as dead 23 October 2008 after giving an interview with some news source the day before and whose collection of pictures with Obama appear to be photoshopped (as they appear on the Big Thread).

My guess, is that the man is a ringer, paid to say what ever Obama needs him to say.

I don't claim the information at the links is factual.

But, unless you have a better set of data, I would believe the records of the 89th Division and the Kansas Historical Society before anything anyone in the Obama Family had to say.

If you can find a better set of data, I would appreciate a heads up.

Give the guy a break, it’s not like he’s got a valid birth certificate from which to start his family tree research. /sarc

Yes, I have. According to the US Census, Madelyn's brother's name is Charles W. Payne. He was born in 1924.

Unfortunately, I am in the middle of deleteing hundreds of emails I am getting from a site named, "The Open Government Dialogue." I made a single comment there this AM and have been bombarded with email comments all day -- hundreds of them.

I've lost key emails trying to delete them.

I remember where I got the Census data and will try to obtain it again. Probably won't be until the AM.

It's time for my poker tournament.

Thanks in advance, Beckwith. I’ve not been able to find any census records. I thought I’d seen some record of them in the past. If a middle name is mentioned, this should clear up whether he had a W or T for middle initial.

Also, in the link I provided of Payne talking about his experiences, there are photos of he and his wife with Obama, archive photos of the concentration camp, but no old military photos of Charles Payne from his time in WWII. I was surprised since the whole article was about him and his experiences from that time. A photo of him in uniform would also clear up which branch he served in.

The man pictured below is Charles T. Payne. He was born in February 1925. He attended the Graduate School of Library Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He worked as a library analyst and as assistant director of the University of Chicago Library where he published at least two papers. He retired approximately 12 years ago.

This is the same man that says he is Obama's great-uncle. I don't know where the confusion about "Charles T." versus "Charles W." came into the picture, but this man is Charles T. Payne. He has a well-documented history in Illinois. He's been interviewed multiple times by Chicago newspapers and tv stations and by the Associated Press. He has provided photographs of his sister, Madelyn, and his neice, Stanley Ann. Obama's a liar, but I don't think he's lying about this man.

Did the Navy liberate any camps, or sub-camps?

Well, they had submarines so maybe the liberated some sub camps.

President Obama's great-uncle (Tribune photo by Kuni Takahashi / May 7, 2009) Charles Payne, great uncle of President Barack Obama

LINK

After the war, Payne went to college in Kansas on the GI Bill and then to graduate school at the University of Chicago. He retired at age 70 as assistant director of the University of Chicago's library.

hmmm and Stanley Ann was accepted to attend the University of Chicago (says obama in 'Dreams')

Charles Payne probably knows more about the myth of obama's paternity than he's letting on. An image from the PHOTO GALLERY:

Not so much photoshop as Hollywood Special Effects IMO.

This is the part of the Obama family story that I don't fault him for.

I think that, by running for president, he found out just how much his family lied to him and made up stories about his background and youth.

However, I do think it's part of the reason that his birth certificate is locked away... because he found out "truths" about his childhood that his family kept from him.

Well.... things get a little confused out there between the Alinskyite street agitation diagrams, the Dag Hammarskjöld/neo-Kantian theories of international conflict resolution, the George Soros Open Society Institute seminars, and the Malthusian global population control charts at the Rockefeller Foundation, Sierra Club, and Council on Foreign Relations. He may get some facts and obscure spellings or middle initials confused at certain points but...

Charming fellow what? That e-mail exchange at your link is most revealing.

Ist paragraph of the ‘official website’:

Concerning the service of Mr. Charles Payne: C.T. Payne was a soldier in the 89th Infantry Division. He served in the 355th Infantry Regiment, Company K. The 355th Infantry Regiment was the unit to liberate Ohrdruf. Mr. Payne was there.

Same fellow. No agenda there...sarc.
