There is an apparent discrepency between Beckwith's research findings and the latest Telegraph story about the "real" Obama great-uncle Charles Payne, which appeared on the Telegraph web site May 29. (See also post # 49 by Tammy8 on this thread.)

While Uncle Charlie claims to the Telegraph Washington reporter that O's forthcoming visit to Buchenwald has nothing to do with him and everything to do with politics, it seems like the elderly man is insisting that he indeed was in the US Army and helped liberate Ohrdruf in 1945.

Would appreciate some resolution of this factual issue. Obviously, it's impossible for both to be correct on this important point.

I don't claim the information at the links is factual.

But, unless you have a better set of data, I would believe the records of the 89th Division and the Kansas Historical Society before anything anyone in the Obama Family had to say.

If you can find a better set of data, I would appreciate a heads up.
