WICHITA, Kan. (AP) - Media outlets are reporting that late-term abortion doctor George Tiller has been shot and killed at his church in Wichita, Kan.

Anonymous police sources told The Wichita Eagle other media that the 67-year-old doctor was killed Sunday morning at Reformation Lutheran Church.

Police spokesman Gordon Bassham would not confirm the victim's identity pending notification of relatives but said a 67-year-old "high-profile individual in the community" was shot and killed.

Tiller has been among the few U.S. physicians performing late-term abortions. His clinic has repeatedly been the site of protests for about two decades and he was shot and wounded by a protester in 1993.

Stupid and senseless. This is never the way to promote the Pro Life cause. Murdering of this nature is wrong and only hurts the efforts to protect the unborn. Very counter-productive.

It wasn’t counter productive if the man was angry about Tiller playing house with his wife

This will add fuel to the perverted fire at Homeland Security. The shooter will be regarded as a terrorist, and those of us who think abortion is murder will be considered fellow terrorists. The good thing that might come out of this is that some babies will live, providing their mothers don’t find another willing accomplice to murder. The rest seems bleak indeed.

Churches do have the responsibility of barring unrepentant members from services, and that would include preventing a professional murderer from attending. In a sense, an abortionist would be the equivalent of a pagan priest performing human sacrifices to the god Ba’al, in his many forms.

Agreed. ELCA might but LCMS would not.

A true, saving faith in Christ results in positive works pointing to Christ. It was good that Dr. Tiller heard the Gospel, but it seems as if he were not willing to act on the Gospel. He was like the man who saw blood on his hands in the mirror and instead of washing his hands, turned the mirror away.

If this was done to prevent an abortionist from killing further, I would call this misguided zeal. The worst mass murderer of his time became Saint Paul. It is better not to kill, but to pray for reform. If the person will not reform, it is right to resist his evil. I draw the line at counter-murder. We are not the government nor are we soldiers in a declared war.

If the left wants to make Tiller a martyr, so be it. The left has lots of martyr’s.

We should be more concerned with saving the lives of those unborn about to be aborted. Sorry, I’m glad there is one less abortionist around. I’m glad Tiller is gone.

“Sadly, this is not suprising, considering this is a repeat of history when in the years leading up to the Civil War, there was also the violence that was associated with the efforts to end slavery.”

Exactly what I thought. This smacks of a modern “John Brown.” Someone doing wrong in the of God.

The person that murdered Tiller was wrong, and will be brought to justice for violating the rule of law; he is no hero although his motive may have been to end abortion murder. However, the people of Kansas through their elected officials are equally guilty of the murder of the unborn (late term abortion). The killer of Tiller was wrong, but the State of Kansas that allowed Tiller to be a killer of babies is equally wrong. A responsible state would have used the rule of law to stop Tiller. Now someone has wrongly murdered Tiller to stop what the state wouldn’t. I hold both the murderer and the state (people) responsible for this tradigy.

This is a sad day on many levels. Abortion (especially late term) should be ended. However, anarchy and murder is not the way to do it. However, a state foolish enough not to end it properly bears co-responsibility.

I’m with you bud - dunno what a (LECuEIEIEO) chruch is and don’t care.

The bottom line is the good “doctor” will not kill again.

SO the better question might be, how many will now live now that this stone cold, State protected, serial killer is gone? (sorry, I just gotta harsh on the guy)

As a Christian I am sorry to see someone murdered. Don’t you worry that by celebrating someone’s death and invoking God in the same sentence you make Christians and antiabortion folks look like crazy nuts? The way to end abortion is to EDUCATE and VOTE, if everyone knew what was happeneing they would be SICK. But murder is not a Christian value!

Listen to all of you so concerned about what the left will say, what the media will report. Rules your day, runs your life, they have affected the way you live your life. Who cares what they say? Screw them.

My brother and I attended a Lutheran school when we were children. The tuition was pretty expensive back then (Dad was a GM factory worker and is spinning in his grave over the current state of his once great company)but it was the best money my parents ever spent. We of course are hard corps free market capitalists and CONSERVATIVES! Thanks for the GREAT education.

"Killing Tiller was not only murder, it was stupid and counter-productive"

True perhaps, though my first thought was that this might act as a deterrent to others who would do as Tiller did - if they think they could be next.

Otherwise his death will have been in vain.

It could be a ... Sebellius supporter!!

That occurred to me too. We know that Sebelius failed to report 2/3rds of the money Tiller donated to her campaign, then had to own up to it later.

We know that Tiller and Sebelius had a long term, mutually profitable relationship in Kansas.

We know that he operated his business on the edge of the law, and that she used her influence to quash legal actions against him when he crossed the line.

What else don't we know about their unholy alliance? Who would profit from his martyrdom, and (more importantly) his silence?

And that is what this boils down to? Liberals will mischaracterize and lie about us? We have to be mindful of what THEY think? F’em

Are you familiar with the Missouri Compromise? That was back when the states actually had rights, though.
