The English were so much more civilized in the 16th century Unless it was for Treason, when you got the gibbet, followed by eviscerating and burning the organs in front of your eyes, followed by cutting off your head and cutting your body into four parts, burying them at crossroads and placing their heads on the tower of London. They kept this up until Victoria's reign.

The last occasion was on 24 August 1782 against Scottish spy David Tyrie in Portsmouth for carrying on a treasonable correspondence with the French (using information passed to him from officials high in the British government).
All of the extra ceremonies occurred after Tyrie was already dead. You can google it.
