Mark McKinnon: The GOP's Suicide Mission (RINO Alert)
The Daily Beast ^ | 5/26/09

Posted on 05/29/2009 4:56:11 PM PDT by lewisglad

Memo to my party: Blasting targets like Sonia Sotomayor is a surefire strategy to guarantee our extinction.

If the GOP is ever to be resurgent, it has to pick its fights carefully. The tendency is, unfortunately, to shoot at everything that moves.

Here are a couple of fights we don’t need: Colin Powell and Sonia Sotomayor.

Let’s face it, Sotomayor is a political trifecta. Woman. Hispanic. Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval from George H. W. Bush.

Yes, Mitch McConnell has to make his pro forma gestures about doing due diligence. And it is important to fully examine Judge Sotomayor’s judicial record. But, every day this confirmation battle gets unreasonably extended is a good day for Democrats and a bad day for Republicans.

Sotomayor is going to be confirmed. There is little doubt about it. So, going into weeks or months of paroxysms and hysterics about alleged “judicial activism” is just going to make the party look bitter, tone deaf, and out of touch.

No one is suggesting that Dick Cheney or Rush Limbaugh leave the party. So why are they insistent on defining the party as such an exclusive club? It’s a recipe for permanent minority status.

But I think it’s great that there are strongly conservative voices in the party. Hell, I loved seeing Liz Cheney out burning up the TV circuits defending the policies of President Bush. She’s a superstar in the making. I don’t agree with everything she says, but I think it’s good that the party has a broad chorus singing the hymns. Even if it’s not in perfect harmony.

So, for the good of the party, after applying reasonable due diligence, we ought to be prepared to wave a white flag on Sotomayor, and move on.

Good grief....this is the sissy that refused to run ads against Hussein during the election.

These guys are desperate to rationalize their worship of Obama, they must save him from ANY pain.

Kind of sick really, seems unhealthy.

Mark has lost touch with reality. His comment that people are leaving the Republican Party “in droves” because the party isn’t liberal enough was so far off target that it missed the entire planet. Talk about someone being in the state of denial. I’m no longer a Republican because they’ve indicated to me that conservatives are no longer wanted in their big circus tent.

The one thing they miss is that conservatives want someone to fight for their principles. Waving the white flag? You fight, you limp d****!

Aye, fight and you may die. Run, and you'll live... at least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies they will never take... OUR FREEDOM!

From the article: We should be on our knees praising Colin Powell for declaring that he has not, despite the desire of some narrow and vocal forces within the GOP, left the party. Because if he does, we might as well turn the lights out.

Why? Colin Powell has one vote, which he chose to give to the Democrat in the last election.

Mark McKinnon: The GOP's Suicide Mission (RINO Alert)

There is more to life on Earth than winning elections. There is fighting for the liberties we inherited from those that came before us. And not standing by silent as those liberties vanish for the sake of winning a congressional district in Vermont.

Absolutely, the right answer! The RINO bastards at the head-shed are total lost and losing every battle they face!

Powell’s been doing his best to turn the lights off.

I believe the only reason he ever identified with the Republican Party was for his own self-promotion and to rake in large speaking fees.

He’s despicable.

For those who may not know, McKinnon came to Bush from Demonrat Gov. Ann Richards and I’ve always suspected he’s remained a Demonrat shill. And we know how good George W. was at picking those types. McKinnon needs to shut up.
