The President discovers Intelligence agency at Five Guys
politico ^ | 5/29/09 | Ben Smith

Posted on 05/29/2009 4:43:35 PM PDT by Typical_Whitey

On his trip to get a burger with Brian Williams at Five Guys this afternoon, the President appears to have learned of the existence of a Defense Department intelligence arm, the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency, from an agency employee also at the burger restaurant.

"So explain to me exactly what this National Geospatial..." Obama said, after the worker mentioned his employer, according to a video of the event.

"We work with, uh, satellite imagery," the worker, Walter replied.

A POLITICO reader caught the exchange, which starts around 5:45 on this C-SPAN video.

The transcript:

Obama: What do you do Walter? Walter: I work at, uh, NGA, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency Obama: Outstanding, how long you been doing that? Walter: About six years Obama: Yea? Walter: Yes. Obama: You like it? Walter: I do, keeps me... Obama: So explain to me exactly what this National Geospatial...uh... Walter: Uh, we work with, uh, satellite imagery.. Obama: Right Walter: [unintelligible] ...support systems, so... Obama: Sounds like good work. Walter: Enjoy the weekend. Obama: Appreciate it.

According to the Defense Department:

The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) is a Department of Defense combat support agency and a member of the national Intelligence Community (IC). NGA develops imagery and map-based intelligence solutions for U.S. national defense, homeland security and safety of navigation.

NGA provides timely, relevant and accurate geospatial intelligence in support of national security objectives. The term "geospatial intelligence" means the exploitation and analysis of imagery and geospatial information to describe, assess and visually depict physical features and geographically referenced activities on the Earth. Geospatial intelligence consists of imagery, imagery intelligence and geospatial (e.g., mapping, charting and geodesy) information.

Guess they're not getting much airtime in the President's Daily Brief

Note to Freepers who don’t live on the East Coast:

Five Guys is fantastic. Don’t go there and order a bacon cheeseburger and fries unless you’re REALLY hungry.

The way it is written the guy sounded hesitant. Maybe someone with a security clearance can tell me if he should have been having that conversation in a public place. (even with the president)

President's Daily Brief

I would be surprised if he had much of any Daily Brief at all.

This event has doomed this department. Odumbo will close this DOD agency.

There are several agencies under Intelligence and I think this is one of them.

I will call that the Obama defense.

He is going to gut out the DOD because he can’t remember the various departments and their functions..... How typically Liberal of him.

So, Zero goes to Five Guys every other Friday?

Is there no one in the White House willing to go out and get a burger for Zero? He really needs to snarl Friday traffic in Wash DC for this? Is he really this desperate for a photo op?

My God...the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency handles some of the country’s most sensitive satellite reconnaissance operations, and Barry didn’t know about it

What I find truly amazing is that Obama slammed Bush for being wrong on WMD in Iraq, but doesn’t even know about the very agency that tracked convoys of Iraqi vehicles transporting stuff out of Iraq and into Syria before the war:

“Retired Air Force Lt. Gen. James Clapper, head of the National Imagery and Mapping Agency, said vehicle traffic photographed by U.S. spy satellites indicated that material and documents related to the arms programs were shipped to Syria.”
http://www.frontpagemag.com/readArticle.aspx?ARTID=15708

Maybe now that Obama has discovered that such an agency exists (and has existed for some time), he ought sit down for a reality-check conversation with Gen. James Clapper who ran the agency from 2001 to 2006.

Yes he should sit down with the agency people and go over all the intel they had but he won’t because he wants to revise that history.

What possibly can Obama say to the American people after the next terror attack on our soil?
