New Orleans Sensitive, internal memos and financial information are leaking like a sieve exposing vulnerabilities in some of our storied unions. This hurts workers and all of us. In labor we need some real leadership and something like a Geneva convention or UNITE, HERE, and SEIU ménage de trios is now breaking out.
In the bitter court battle and divorce struggle within UNITE HERE as they try to unwind the merger of their organizations several years ago and reassemble various pieces into a new formation or in the former UNITE case to affiliate with SEIU, like the worst of Hollywood divorces both sides seem unrestrained in trying to destroy the other, no matter who and what is hurt at the hindmost. Most recently when the HERE forces seized the building in New York City where the former UNITE forces had been operating, a flood of documents has been unleashed in internet way past acceptable boundaries.
One details the declining financial fortunes of UNITE laying the cupboard bare for employer inspection at a time when employers are trying to deny recognition and therefore dues income to the union claiming (with way too much credibility) that they cant tell who and what the union really is. ARAMARK, who I know too well personally from a dozens of organizing campaigns run by my local union or partnerships we managed, seems to have been predictably quick to now refuse to bargain and deny recognition I heard from a colleague in California on the phone yesterday.

SEIU leader leaves over alleged practices:(May 29, 2009) "SEIU is $45 million in the red. SEIU gave disgraced Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich $800,000 in return for collective bargaining rights for 37,000 home health-care workers and gave him $1.8 million for his two runs for governor...The Los Angeles Times reports that SEIU President Andy Stern is under federal investigation. Union Executive Tyrone Freeman misappropriated funds to his wife's day-care center for $1.1 million and still remained in office for seven years."
According to an internal memo that was apparently taken from Raynor's office last week and posted on a Web site, the new Workers United union has major financial problems and is losing $314,000 a month. Raynor said SEIU has already loaned the union $500,000 and has agreed to another $500,000 loan.
Rathke blogs: "SEIU under its president, Andy Stern, made a huge bet with Obama once they came into the Obama camp in the spring of 2008, and understood that their stewardship of membership dues only mattered if they could prove it really meant something in terms of real change.
Wade Rathke: "Furthermore this is big time stuff not just petty backroom deals and the Obama administration is getting way more than a bang for its buck in the partnership as well."
Radical philosophy and political strategy of ACORN founder and Co-founder of the Tides Foundation, Wade Rathke & Cloward/Piven Strategy : "In 1966, Richard Andrew Cloward and Frances Fox Piven, both sociologists at Columbia University, penned a strategy to destroy the capitalist system. They believed that as long as welfare kept the American poor satisfied, the poor would never rise up in revolution against the nation. Therefore, it was necessary to create a method to flood the system with demands until the entire American financial structure collapsed.
When the AFL-CIO hires Rathke to teach his method of organizing skills to expand their union membership, they are supporting ever increasing demands and intimidation as the means to their end. According to Project Vote Smart, Congressman (D)Chet Edwards supported the AFL-CIO through his votes in Congress 95%. Rathke's creation, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) gives Edwards an 84%. Edwards supports the interests of The United Auto Worker's Union 100%.
The video at Edwards campaign supporter, the Laborer's Union, to see why Unions are out to buy Edwards' vote out from under the residents of Texas 17. The American treasury is not currently responsible for the union's pension plan, but the promise can be read between the lines. Repeatedly the video states: those not supporting Obama do so because of racism.-Source
A Treasurer of a Steal Workers Union, here in Kansas, just got in trouble for stealing money from his Union.
This seems to happen all the time, but the MSM never says much about it.
Intentional typo?
SEIU should be RICO’d along with ACORN...they are HAND in GLOVE!
Isn’t SEIU SERVICE EMPLOYEE INTERNATIONAL UNION??? It isn’t Steel Union.
What a bunch of rejects.
A Rathke brother writing about fraud and theft? That is rich.
My head is spinning, Ann. I thought it was a funny misspelling by Kansas58.
All unions should have a break in....lets see what is cooking!!
Sending this to both Glenn Beck and that guy Savage calls “The Leprechaun”.
OK
Trying to cook, talk to kids, and type on FR at the same time.
Big mistake -—
Well, maybe not -—

Unions are Unions.
They are run by crooks, all of them.
Some simply have not been caught, yet!
I wasn’t criticizing. I was amused in a good way. Thanks.
I understand.
Just don’t like to make mistakes!
Should have just said I did it on purpose!
I wonder what we can do to throw fuel on the fire.
Late one night, when we were all in bed,
Mrs. O'Leary lit a lantern in the shed.
Her cow kicked it over,
Then winked her eye and said,
"There'll be a hot time in the old town tonight!"
Forty years later, a reporter, Michael Ahern, working for the Chicago Republican at the time of the fire, boasted in the Tribune that he and two now-deceased cronies made the whole O'Leary story up. Ahern had a little problem with "the booze".
Send our Leaders some cowbells to wear around their necks?
