Reid's Now OK With Detainees In U.S. Prisons

Courtesy of the indispensable Jon Ralston, some nuance on the ultimate fate of the Guantanamo detainees today from Majority Leader Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV), on the eve of his major fund raiser with the president. Reid taped a segment of Ralston's program, Face to Face:

Reid, who has been criticized for his contradictory positions on Guantanamo Bay, said some prisoners will be put in maximum security prisons on U.S. soil, emphasizing the safety of those facilities:

"A maximum security prison in the United States, there has never been a single escape."

JR: "You think eventually the plan is going to be to put them in maximum security prisons here in this country, correct?"

"I think some.  Keep in mind, Jon, there's so many different issues.  There's no question that a number of these people who are there are not guilty of anything. The Uighurs, these are a group of Muslim Chinese who are guilty of nothing.  They were arrested, put in there.  They are there.  They are doing nothing.  We're going to have to find someplace to put them.  We can't send them back to China.  Should they go into a maximum security prison?  Probably not."

So now training at an al Qaeda camp is a purely innocent act.

Whoever runs against Reid needs to use this latest commentary to demonstrate how nonchalant he is about the WOT.

In a just world, Reid will be soundly defeated in the next election.

he has been gotten to. it's a sin to speak against the orthodoxy. AND, he is being paid off today at the mega-fund raiser.

one of the differences is that your average supermax convict isn't usually willing to die for his cause; his cause being killing as many americans as he can just for the pleasure of seeing them die. nor does he have several hundred friends that are likely to convene at whatever town the jail is close to, and plan an escape . . . during which process the major goal is to kill as many americans as possible.

Maybe Harry wants to put them in Yucca Flats, since we aren’t going to put nuclear waste there. Hey wait a minute - it could be a two-fer!

Maybe he is, but I'm not. The last thing we need is hardened al-Qaida terrorists indoctrinating US prison inmates in Islamic fanaticism and jihad.

You nailed it with your "AP new flash".. This issue is not these terrorist escaping, but the community becoming targets. If you are a guard or worker at a prison holding terrorist captured on foriegn soil, do you feel your family is safe! The US military goes to great length to protect the identity of the soldierd at Gito’s prison. This is impossible to do on US soil. In Southern Colorado in the Canyon City area, almost everyone is employed by a local, state or federal prison. Mr. 0bama, you thunk the terrorist care which prison you work at? You are putting US families at risk!

Yes, to the democrats training to be terrorists against a sovereign nation who is a trading partner of ours is Just Fine, so long as they weren’t publicly saying they wanted to attack us.

Imagine the outrage if China gave Bin Laden a house and freedom simply beause he never attacked THEM.

Exactly. The difference between Gitmo and Supermax-X Prison is that they can drive a garbage truck VBIED up to the gate of the US prison.

The FBI Hostage Roasting Team might have to earn its keep, too.
