A few days ago it was announced the Florida Chapter of Free Republic would be gathering together in D.C. to attend the National Tea Party. Due to overwhelming interest all across the country, the event has now gone national

Get your plans set and join Freepers from across the U.S. for the 1st. annual Freeper National Tea Party Convention!

This event is open only to Registered Freepers, their families and friends.

I’ll be coordinating this event with the MOST appreciated help from seekthetruth. For now I (Brytani) am collecting names of those who are committed to going to D.C. with us. Once we have a realistic idea of how many Freepers are aboard, I will be contacting Hotels in D.C. to find a group or convention rate.

We already have a few wonderful Hotels on our list and don’t want to wait until they are filled up. The plan is simple and will take only a FreepMail but time is of the essence!!! Hotels in D.C. are filling up fast!!!

Please send Brytani a FreepMail if you are going to D.C. or if you’re strongly considering attending.   For now I need your FreeperID, the number of room you will need the how many people will be in your party. If you have any questions please ask them on this thread or if you’d prefer you can FreepMail me.

During the first week of June I will announce the Hotel, room rate, address, perks etc and when and how your reservation will need to be made.

For those who are considering joining us but have not completely committed, please FreepMail as well. This will give me a better idea of how many room to inquire on.

If you are already attending please consider staying with Freepers from around the nation. You’ll have the opportunity to meet people you’ve been talking to for years and make new FRriends.

Come on everyone get on board!!! Save a bit of money! Could you ask for a better group of people to spend a weekend with?

Thanks to JimRob for allowing us to make this event an official Free Republic function.

TO ALL FREEPERS!
You can book your room at the Sheraton now, and several Freepers have already done so! Here is the hotel registration link: http://www.starwoodmeeting.com/StarGroupsWeb/booking/reservation?id=0906119558&key=90ABB

As soon as the Convention tickets are made available for purchase...the FIRST 10 FREEPERS who have booked a room AND have purchase their Convention ticket will be entered into my t-shirt drawing!

I am donating a beautiful Free Republic t-shirt personalized with the winner's Freeper name. The Free Republic t-shirts are made by our own Freeper, “Seeking The Truth”. (We sure do have similar Freeper names but he is among the “original” Freepers!) I have arranged with Gene to make the T-shirt with the winner's Freeper name and the shirt will be shipped to the winner after the winner selects the size and tells Gene his/her Freeper name. Or, if desired, the winner can have the shirt made without his/her Freeper name applied.

If you have booked your room, be sure to watch for the Convention ticket sales post so you can do your best to BE AMONG THE FIRST 10 FREEPERS WHO HAVE BOOKED A ROOM AND PURCHASED A CONVENTION TICKET to enter the T-shirt drawing!

HERE ARE THE RULES:
1. The first 10 Freepers who have booked a room at the Sheraton AND have purchased a Convention Ticket will be entered into the drawing.

2. The first 10 Freepers will be assigned a number 1-10.

3. JimRob will pick a number from 1 to 10 (not knowing any names assigned to numbers). The Freeper who matches the number that JimRob chooses will be the winner!

Book your room now so you will be ready when the Convention tickets go on sale to be among the first 10 who purchase a Convention ticket and are entered into the drawing!

Can you explain what “convention” tickets are? I’m a little confused...aren’t we going to take part in the protest on September 12th? What’s the convention?

Very good to know. I don’t mind the metro, but this is better.

The Freeper Convention runs from Friday evening through Sunday with Freepers attending rallies during the day 9/12 and a large banquet Saturday evening. The Convention ticket will cover the Freeper hotel events/banquet/workshop.
Details are coming. :)

“Can I just come to the dinner?”

You may just come to the dinner but the Freeper Convention ticket price will include the Friday evening event with finger foods, the Saturday breakfast, the banquet Saturday evening and the cost of the meeting room for our workshop on Sunday following a Sunday brunch. The ticket price can not be divided and covers those events even if you only attend the banquet.

I hope this is not a silly question, is the place where we are meeting for the tea party within walking distance from our hotel?

Hi Brytani,

I am coming from Florida but I got a good deal at another hotel (credit card points). I will be joining all the festivities with my fellow FReepers. My husband, sister and brother-in-law will be going also. Can’t wait.

I believe we will use the Metro to get to the Mall area where many events are taking place.

The Sheraton is at a Metro stop about 1 block away. They will be running shuttle buses for us to get to and from The Mall and Walter Reed.

I'm looking at a map and the nearest Metro station is about a mile away, as the crow flies, and on the other side of I-395. It does not appear to be an easy walk.

What’s a good price for a round trip ticket from Ft Lauderdale Fl, Airport? I saw $148 non stop round trip on Jet Blue on Travelocity.

Only problem is, you need a power source and remote access to the internet.

In other words, electricity and a laptop?

No. That is assumed.

You need to be able to move around with the crowd and not run out of power AND you can have 20 labtops but if you can’t link up to the internet remotely, then you are SOOL.

In other words, what Network will you be linking to and how?

I’ve got my airline reservations into Reagan airport, and my hotel reservations at the Sheraton National.

It appears the Sheraton will cover transportation to and from the airport.

My question relates to travel between the hotel and the National Mall area. It appears the Metro has two routes into the Arlington area, but the station closest to the hotel involves a walk of over a mile.

How do we get back and forth between the hotel and the National Mall? What are the alternatives to hoofing it to the nearest Metro station and from there taking the Metro into the Mall?

I really don’t want the hassle and expense of a rental car.
