Gift of conservative book returned as too pricey (Author is a Freeper)

Democratic leaders in the House won't be putting on their reading glasses to learn about alleged liberal distortions of American history.

House Speaker Armond Budish, D-Beachwood, is sending back 51 copies of the book 48 Liberal Lies About American History: (That You Probably Learned in School) by Larry Schweikart, a professor at the University of Dayton.

The books were donated to the Democratic caucus by the Montgomery County Republican Party. (Two caucus members, for reasons not clear, did not receive the book.)

In his letter sending back the books, Budish wrote that the cover price of $25.95 exceeds the $20 limit set by Gov. Ted Strickland for accepting gifts. Strickland established that limit in his first executive order after taking office in January 2007. The executive order applies only to the executive branch, not members of the legislature.

Budish spokesman Keary McCarthy said the speaker is applying those rules to his caucus as well. Democrats aren't sending back the books out of any ideological quarrel with Schweikart or the Montgomery County GOP, McCarthy said.

So would Budish have read the book if it had cost, say, $19.95?

"He has usually been reading the state budget," McCarthy said. "That's the book of choice around here."

The author of the book in question posts on FR.

Oh, and since the dems have gained control over much of Ohio govt., corruption has hit a new high and this book give back is a joke in comparison.

If they're Dems, they probably can't read. I'm guessing the version with pictures wasn't available yet.

We’re bleeding jobs here in Ohio.
Strickland makes Taft look like a Boy Scout, but the MSM doesn’t say nary a peep.

And, I guess those members of the Dem caucus didn't want to spend $5.95 of their own money and keep the books. They could have been asked to do that, couldn't they? That would have kept the gift of the book at the $20.00 limit! However, I doubt that they are interested in the truth, or even another opinion or viewn of history.

Dems in office live in their own self-created fog and are self-perpetuating to boot. But, I also bet that few of them read Obama's books, or they would have felt quite differently about him as a candidate. The only thing they are interested in reading is the polls -- about themselves. LOL

“Democrats aren’t sending back the books out of any ideological quarrel with Schweikart or the Montgomery County GOP, McCarthy said.”

In my youth I had the misfortune of working, whether I wanted to or not (I didn’t) with some of the most obvious, and disgusting of the self centered, exhibitionistic sorts known as Liberals in the World of the little Theater, and Summer Stock as well. Grandmother was a flaming Lib, and had much to do with old Hollywood in as she was a dues paying member of the club, and a Script Writer.

That said I know what BS is due that experience. NOBODY can BS me as my ancient, but reliable ACME catalogue BS Alert-O-Meter complete with hood ornament and running boards sounds the alarm clearly and distinctly to this day.

That statement of McCarthy’s quoted above is BS.

But you knew that all along even without an ACME catalogue BS Alert-O-Meter didn’t you?

Libs know they’re screwed up and have lost the war before it started by them. So they are out to materialy loot and beat with powers all they can before we figure.

Those taxes and acts of denials are purely punitive activities without checks and balances.

America, wake the heck up.

Since the cat is out of the bag, the situation was this:

About 6 weeks ago, a wealthy Texan saw me on "Fox and Friends" and called to say he wanted to give a copy of my book to every legislator in America. Ultimately, he purchased 7,680 copies, and I signed 7,500, which we mailed out to every member of every state legislature, plus the guys in Washington.

Besides OH Dems, the KY Dem Speaker of the House (?) paid on his own to ship his back.

So if only 52 are returning of the thousands sent out, that means some Dem somewhere may be reading your book!

What other books have you written? I think I may have bought one for my son a while back, I think you signed it. I think that was you LOL

My mistake, it was a give-away to service members and I got one for my son. Thank you.

Yeah, that was me. If your son is in the service, he might like my new WW II fiction, "Halsey's Bluff," a counterfactual about the battle of Midway where the Japanese win . . . then all hell breaks loose.

I’ll look into that although he probably wouldn’t be interested but my Dad might. He did think your other book was good though.

A couple of questions, it’s listed as currently out of stock and one reviewer mentions some editing issues- do you know if it’s out of stock for edits and if so when do you expect it to be available? thanks

The person in question is Ron Russell of the Midway Round Table: he reviewed a not-quite-finished MSS that is fully corrected now.

I'm still trying to find out when they will get more stock. Should be immediately.

No, they are probably selling it on EBay as new, never opened for pure profit.
