For many, the mere mention of milk will be enough to invoke memories of nausea, bloating, cramps, diarrhea, and perhaps in some cases, jibes and taunts about wind and bad breath. Some will have undergone medical tests that diagnosed the cause as Lactose intolerance .
Lacking the enzyme lactase, which breaks down the milk sugar lactose (see box), they are unable to digest milk, whereas lactose-tolerant people can. Others, though, might still be unaware that they are deficient in lactase, not realizing that drinking milk causes their feelings of nausea, etc.[1]
For many years, lactose intolerance was regarded as abnormal, and was used by many as evidence of human evolution. As a measure of evolutionary advancement, milk-drinking seemed to fit the stereotype perfectly. Pale-skinnned northern Europeans usually retained full intestinal lactase activity into adulthood, in stark contrast to the worlds darker-skinned peoples who are only able to digest milk as infants or young children. Well, thats the way the story went.
However, lactose deficiency in adults is not in fact abnormal, but the norm! Research has shown that...

Great, so now I’m abnormal....
I had a carton of milk in the refrigerator that was so sour it had to be more than 6000 years old all by itself.
“Hi. My name is ______ and I’m lactarded.”
Interestingly dogs have juvenile wolf traits. Perhaps we were chimp pets?
Whole statement is nothing more than made up green BS!!!!
If lactose intolerance is the perfect original state, why did God promise the Israelites a land flowing with MILK and honey?
And yea, you want to soothe the stomach, milk is great.
See, you’re normal after all.
Don’t confuse them with actual science.
Remember, you can’t spell Creationist without C-R-E-T-I-N.
I take about 3-4 times the recommended dose with good results. Easier to stick those in my pocket than a carrot. I’ll refrain from the ensuing joke.
LOL
Thanks for the daily laugh!
Guess i’m wierd, I drink over 4 gallons of whole milk a week.
I'm just the opposite, I drink over 4 gallons of whole milk a week and haven't been sick in 65 years and have never had the flew.
Last time I was sick is when I had the measles when I was 8.
“Lactaide!!!”
I don’t have a financial interest in this stuff, but as the father of a kid that is profoundly lactose intolerant, let me suggest something. We were relieved to find that our son could drink the prepared Lactaide milk that you can purchase in the store, because kids really need the nutrients that they get from milk. However, as you know, it is ruinously expensive (’cause kids drink a LOT of Lactaide once they realize it won’t make them sick). What to do?
We thought about this for awhile and did our research. It turns out that there’s a company up in Canada called Gelda Scientific (google their website). They sell little squeeze bottles of lactase. Each bottle treats 80 qts. (20 gals). They’ll send you box of 12 of these little bottles for ~$120 (enough for 240 gals (yikes!)). I just drop about 25 drops of the stuff into a gallon of regular (cheap) milk, and put it in the refrigerator for a couple of days with my kids initial scribbled on it with a Sharpie. Now my son has his own gallon of what amounts to Lactaide (and it’s way cheaper than what it would cost if it was real Lactaide). He thrives on the stuff, and drinks a couple of gals/week.
You might consider this since, as you know, being lactose intolerant can be a bitch. Just an option to consider.
I fed my babies only milk for the first six months of their lives. By their sixth month, they were digesting this perfect food so completely that they didn’t have poopy diapers for 10 days at a time. My pediatrician said this was normal for 6 month old breastfed babies. I think they liked the milk made with coffee and peanut M & M’s the best.
I read an old National Geographic article many years ago about Vikings in America.
They met and got along with the first “skraelings” (Indians) they met, even shared food with them, including milk products from the Viking supplies.
Then the Skraelings got sick, thinking they had been poisoned they gathered the tribes and attacked the Vikings and drove them away.
“However, lactose deficiency in adults is not in fact abnormal, but the norm!”
—Next in the news, being right handed is the norm!!!! :-)
This would have been an interesting article... 60 years ago.
“Evolutionary notions re: lactose intolerance overturned”
—I didn’t spot any “evolutionary notions” that were “overturned”. Maybe I missed it.
