I know this whole Obama thing is depressing, but still, it’s a little early in the morning to be hitting the booze.
After watching Obama's speech introducing the woman, his insincerity, and even with teleprompters his wooden delivery, and with the easily accessed video of this woman blatantly admitting that she is not upholding her constitutional oath of office (and admitting that "it is widely known" others do not, either), it appears that Obama's handlers are either getting sloppy, or she's going to be the sacrificial lamb who they will kick to the curb tp slide in the one they actually want.
Well, now! Given the alternative......
Maybe just a wee little shot of brandy in my AM coffee?? I mean it’s almost 8AM here in Nevada. . .and, as Alan Jackson says, “It’s 5 o’clock somewhere”
is it sotomayor or sotomayer?
Justice Clarence Thomas can certainly lay claim to that background.
Believe that it was firefighters based in New Haven. Sotomayor’s opinion was considered immaterial to the basis of the case.
She’s clearly not sympathetic to white firefighters who excel not once but twice on testing that has been qualified for racial discrimination.
It’s the results that she is working from as you know, she’s sympathetic.
Sotomayor
Sotomayor is middle of the road. As long as you put squish middle on the right and Joe Stalin and Fidel as your reference on the left.
Then she is absolutely moderate.
Stuart Taylor’s comments on Sotomayor’s speech are telling:
“Any prominent white male would be instantly and properly banished from polite society as a racist and a sexist for making an analogous claim of ethnic and gender superiority or inferiority.
Imagine the reaction if someone had unearthed in 2005 a speech in which then-Judge Samuel Alito had asserted, for example: “I would hope that a white male with the richness of his traditional American values would reach a better conclusion than a Latina woman who hasn’t lived that life” — and had proceeded to speak of “inherent physiological or cultural differences.”

“Most liberals see themselves as centrists because of their self-centered world view. They have no perspective on how they views square with history.”
EXACTLY! I remember nearly falling off my chair a number of years ago while watching “Inside Washington” and hearing Nina Totenberg describing herself as a centrist. NINA TOTENBERG!
She will not be influential. She doesn’t have the intellect to do so. But she will be reliable from a left wing standpoint.
She will also come off poorly at times in Q&A if you ain’t from Da Bronx.
Scalia is a national treasure. A mountain of intellect that does not deviate based on his personal feelings.
One thing to love about Scalia is that he says social issues should be handled at the ballot box not in the justice’s chambers. No one listens of course.
You are so wrong it ain’t funny. It’s a mistake to look at this in terms of ideology.
The reason the right should be happy with this pick is her attitude. As I said before, Kagan would’ve been the smarter choice for Obama. Based on your earlier response to me in a different thread, what you fail to realize is how a justice’s personality influences Justice Kennedy. Kagan is the left’s Roberts in terms of personality. She is friendly to the other side in an attempr to win them over. Kagan could probably pull Kennedy to the left.Sotomayor, on the other hand, has an abrasive personzlity that may, over the course of a few terms, push Kennedy to the right.
That is why conservatives should be pleased with this pick.
