WASHINGTON — Former Secretary of State Colin Powell says he's still a Republican, but the party needs to change and be more inclusive.

Powell is a moderate Republican who says he endorsed Democrat Barack Obama over Republican John McCain for president because he thought Obama was the better candidate.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney and radio personality Rush Limbaugh have openly mocked Powell's political leanings – questioning whether he still is in the GOP.

Ronald Reagan thought enough of Colin Powell to make him his National Security Adviser. Bush41 promoted Powell to Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. And Bush43 made Powell Sec of State.

In 2008 Powell repaid the GOP by supporting, promoting, endorsing and then voting for, the liberal-socialist, Barack Obama.

End of story. Powell can go to hell!

Nevertheless it’s true, Mr. Powell.

It’s only unfortunate for you, because you have been exposed as a racist that votes according to race even when it means voting for an anti-American, Kenyan Marxist, one who would not place his hand over his heart during the National Anthem, but would bow before a Moslem potentate.

Powell is actively co-opting the party in a cooperative move with Obama since he is so desperately and persistently reinforcing his Republican bona fides in direct contradiction to his actions. At a minimum, he is trying to redefine the center of the party in order to paint RUSH and conservatives as extremists.

inclusive? Has he stated what that means? Has anyone asked him what that means? The answer would be very telling.

How much more “inclusive”/liberal can the GOP get? During the past 8 years they’ve supported huge bailouts (that got the bailout ball a-rollin’), keeping the borders porous, a massive prescription drug benefit program, the adding of thousands of new bureaucrats into the Fedgov, tossing tens of billions of dollars down the sinkhole of Africa (ostensibly to “fight AIDS’), the continued nationalization of education. ...for starters. What else does Powell want the GOP to do?

Sounds like Colon Powell is lonely so high up in the
fecal, rectal space of Obama and his corrupt socialist,
Marxist, proterrorist Democrats. That is where Powell
crawled, away from the GOP in its greatest time of need.

Powell has no right to say anything about what the GOP should or shouldn't do. He backed Obama. He more likely than not voted for Obama.

Powell needs to change to the Demcrap party, where he belongs.

By my reckoning, you were right the first time.

Yep, and I hope that Pres Bush and VP Cheney write the truth about Powell's and the DNC’s Unamerican activities during our missions in two war theaters.

The Republican Party could be more inclusive if more minorities and gays could bring themselves to act more out of principle than self-interest, love of country rather than love of self, idealism rather than self-centeredness.

Sorry, that's just how I see it. I know that they have it in them but I fear only pain brought on by economic calamity or military attack will finally wake them up.

Powell: The party must be more inclusive so we need to get rid of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hanity and the rest of the non moderates

Does anyone else see the hypocricy in his logic?

Powell also addressed criticism from conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh, saying his assertion that Powell only voted for President Obama because “he is black” was “unfortunate.”

Unfortunate that Rush let the cat out of the bag, he?

Powell is a RINO-in-name-only.

Cheers!

Powell claims he is a Republican, and yet he supported and voted for a Democrat that is more radical and more abortion-friendly than any U.S. President before him.

Newt ebbs and flows with what the left thinks and does.

I have lost all respect for Newt and will continue to feel that way until he starts speaking like a true Conservative Republican.

I would love to ask Colon Powell one question - “Can you name ANY republican you would vote for over Barack Obama?”

If the answer is no, then he is not even CLOSE to being a republican! Hells bells, HILLARY is closer to the GOP than Obama!
