Katrina Victims Face Eviction From Federal Housing (It's about freakin time!)
fox news ^ | 5/22/2009 | Molly Henneberg

Nearly four years after hurricanes Katrina and Rita left a million Americans homeless, the government is threatening to throw thousands of storm survivors out of temporary federal housing.

A FEMA official told a House panel Friday that the government will send Katrina survivors still living in temporary housing eviction notices starting June 1 and try to connect them to agencies that can help them. But he also said it would be "some period of time," meaning months, before the evictions actually would begin.

The $5.6 billion housing assistance program that provided temporary trailers and hotel rooms to victims was supposed to end in 2007. But the deadline was extended by two years to May 1 of this year to help the more than 5,000 individuals and families still struggling to rebuild their lives. (At its peak, 143,000 households along the Gulf Coast were located in temporary housing units.)

But the Obama administration says they have to go by the end of the month or face eviction.

Republicans and Democrats say they don't want to throw people out on the street, especially if their real homes are just months from completion. But they're also irked that some people just won't take the steps to move on.

"We're currently facing an ugly decision -- either extending the extended program indefinitely, I guess, or discontinuing the program for 5,000 people," Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart, R-Fla., said.

Obama’s going to evict Katrina victims? Shame on him. He must hate black people.

Hell, Obama will probably have mansions built for them after they start screaming again about “no one caring for the black man”.

This could be a good stock up on popcorn moment. Because the Dems whipped up such a frenzy about Katrina and Bush hates black people and Bush didn’t prepare for the hurricane, yadda, yadda, yadda. Now that a good Democrat is president, will they really take away the housing assistance? What does that say about good liberal Democrats if they would do that?????????

They’re still in temporary housing? Years doesn’t sound very “temporary” to me. Remind me to buy a house in hurricane country so I can get in on some free rent next time too.

I can not even believe these people have been living in free housing this long. So, they should all have mountains of money saved up, right? Right???

Funny, Zero never did show up to inspect damage from an ice storm that knocked power out in Ky for weeks.

I would hate to see a rerun of Katrina anywhere, however, I’ve often wondered what the heck John Kerry and Democrats would have done differently when Katrina hit.

Sooner or later, Obama or some other Democrat president will have to deal with a natural disaster. Then we’ll see what these guys do that Bush didn’t do.

I still can’t believe that Democrats decided to politicize a hurricane. I still can’t believe they got away with it. In spite of New Orleans and Louisiana having good Democrat mayor and governor, somehow the Republican president was blamed for everything.

Wasting more taxpayer funds. FEMA should have charged them at least a nominal rental fee. Then given them an option to buyout the home for cost. At least the taxpayer would get some bang for the buck. Then again Feds are expert at wasting $$$$$$$$.

A change of address, just one more "change they can believe in".

It says plenty about just how rotten and opportunistic these people truly are, and how they exploit the poor for pure political gain.

...But rest assured, all of Obama's MSM pals over at PMSNBC will find a way to spin it, making it look as though he sought consultation from either Republicans in congress, or some heartless Conservative from a think tank.

Amazing. We can all guess just which “ethnic” group these folks belong to — slothful wretches perfectly happy to get their assistance checks and stay in free housing.

But what’s most amazing is the line in the article which says that the people need to be sent to “another agency.” Meaning, they have no jobs and, in four years, haven’t even begun to make any provision for employment or a roof over their head.

Amazing, just freaking amazing.
