Sobbing Kindergarteners Snubbed for Steelers?
nbc ^ | 5/22/2009 | ANNE REYNOLDS

Posted on 05/22/2009 9:31:44 AM PDT by Nachum

Thursday was supposed to be the highlight of the year for more than 100 kindergarteners from Stafford County, Va. They got up early and took a chartered bus to the White House for a school field trip. But when they arrived, all the 5-year-olds got was a lesson in disappointment.

"The Steelers and the Obama administration used their time together to create 3,000 care packages for U.S. troops as part of a Wounded Warriors initiative."

WHY couldn't they have the kids come and join in? Why would that have been so difficult?? Think how that would've been something they'd have remembered forever.

This is so Obama. His PR probably couldn’t find a way to use them; but they will.

Kindergartners turned away - NO WAY under Bush! The Steelers wouldn’t have minded the extra company either, I doubt.

A real community organizer would have been able to arrange to meet the Steelers and the children at the same time. I’m sure the students would not have minded sharing time with the Steelers.

"The adults didn't do their job and are trying to deflect the fault to the White House.

I agree that most of the blame lies with the chaperons and the tour bus operator. But, there would have been much better ways of handling it. They could have disembarked the kids to the WH lawn and had Barry or even Michelle come out for a quick meet & great and photo op. The hold thing could have been over in 15 minutes or 20 minutes tops. This is completely unavoidable bad PR by the WH social secretary.

I bet there is a bus charter company who would like the truth about just how late they were released. IF they were an hour late, that could hurt their reputation.

Next time the school officials will have them there on time. Their fault, their loss.

People that arrive late for scheduled appointments and expect everyone else’s schedule to be altered in order to make them happy irritate me. I’m inclined to go with the White House on this one. We’re talking about the president. Even if I don’t care for the man, I know they have his days packed.

"If this was the Bush administration there would be hell to pay.

Obama turns away kids from Stafford, VA - I'm guessing that the kids were mostly white. Imagine if Bush had turned away a bus full of black kids from Baltimore or Richmond.

Hey, if they had worked as hard to get Obama elected as the Pittsburgh owner, they would have got in.

Why didn’t TOTUS tell him to say, “Hey kids, wanna meet the Steelers?”

I simply can’t imagine George and Laura Bush doing something like this.

I am willing to bet that GWBush would have stalled the steelers for a bit to at least make an appearance. No way would these kids have been turned away, Laura almost certainly would have seen them even if W couldn't.

I can’t believe the complete lack of class of this “administration”.

There is simply no way that a school group would make such an appointment for 9:30. I believe the time probably was 10:15. Everyone who works with children knows that it takes forever to get a group moving, and if school starts at 8 or 8:30, they could never make a 9:30 appointment.

People who are late always think others should accommodate them. The teacher doesn’t like being shown to be a person who couldn’t manage her time better.

It’s the White House lady. Believe it or not, they do have other things to do.

I’m all for calling Obama on things that he is responsible for, but this teacher was responsible for this.

Seems like the Rolling Stones used to do that too... went a little too far at Altamont.
